Stopping expressing after 5 weeks

I've been expressing for 5 weeks but decided to swap over to formula, it's been 24 hours and my boobs are absolutely killing me and very lumpy. One boob has a lump the size of a golf ball and my boobs are leaking loads, especially when I press on the lump loads of milk flows out. Can anybody recommend ways to help relieve the pain.

It sounds like you have one or more blocked ducts. You can massage the breast from the outside inwards and apply a heat pad or warm jet from the shower to help unblock but generally you need to feed through it to dislodge what's there. If they dont get unblocked you can end up with mastitis. Is your baby able to latch and feed at all?

You should also consider gradually winding down rather than coming to an abrupt stop to avoid this again.

Abrupt stops aren’t really recommended, there’s a good chance you’ll get Mastitis.

My boobs hurt and got a lump from not feeding for about 4 hours, 24 must be horrific!

Don't just stop abruptly, you need to wean off it.

You shouldn't just stop!! Cut out 1 feed for a day or so, then drop another and so o
