Giving 5 month old water

Can anyone tell me how much water I can give my just 5 month old DD? I have read different things online. I think she is a bit constipated and I have given her about 1 and a half oz of water this afternoon. Unsure of how much is safe to give them in one day? Only thing I can remember the HV saying about water was to give her it during the night instead of a bottle if she wakes so she knows she doesn’t get milk, although I do just give milk lol. Thanks

Have you started solids yet? I would give a few sips from a lidded cup if you think they are constipated. I wouldn't be giving water instead of milk to a baby of that age either

A couple of ounces a day is the max at that age I think, no more than 3, but not all in one go.

I've never heard of a HV recommending water during the night until the baby has turned one.

Please don’t give your baby water in the night, that’s shocking advice.

If she’s BF, you could offer another feed. If she’s ff, check the carton as Yiu may be able to add an extra ounce of water to a bottle if she’s constipated.

Oh no, I defiantly am not giving her water in the night. I gave her water this afternoon just to try and help her have a poo. She did say I could start weaning at 5 months but going to wait as near to 6 months.

Honestly, i’d report her. The “advice” she is giving you goes against NHS Guidelines and even if she doesn’t agree with the guidelines herself, she would keep that information to herself.
