When parents post photos of their children not buckled in properly.

Hi, I know children can be nightmares in cares and young children get their arms out the straps etc. But recently I have seen other parents post photos and videos on social media of their DC not correctly strapped in. I’m not a busy body but I have terrible anxiety around car safety after friends and relatives have been in horrific accidents but I will spare those details now.

Recently I have a Mum post a video of her young son in a car seat. The five point harness was too loose, he had his arms leaning forwards but she was filming his dancing. The car was moving. The person videoing was a passenger so why couldn’t she put him back into his seat properly or tell the driver to make a stop. It looked like a busy main road. I have seen other posts where children aren’t correctly in 5 point harnesses. Amongst photos of older children not strapped in properly and the same woman who posted the video of her son dancing posted a photo of her two children asleep in the back of the car with no seatbelts on whatsoever - her youngest being about 2 included.

Also people who have their children in incorrect seats. I have seen children as young as 2 in booster cushions, or no seat whatsoever. I have seen young babies in forward facing car seats!

These aren’t close friends, but people I know of and I’m Facebook friends with. Do you think I should make a comment? Having a crash doesn’t bear thinking about when children aren’t strapped in properly 😪😪

Yes that is scary. Comment but expect people to get defensive.

I struggle with this. I don't know the answer but it panics me too. Overinflated sense of responsibility maybe

A good car seat safety ad campaign would help!

yes Ive seen videos like this and it really made me question these friend's parenting. One, with three kids had her son (6) in the front seat with the daughter (4) in the back with her and she was holding the baby driving through central london (dad driving). Absolutely absurd that the baby wasnt in a car seat and the son in the front seat. Then another friend's brother, posted her son (18months at the time), dancing in the back seat in a car seat unbuckled. I so wanted to say something but i know people dont take "advice" like this well

I suppose I would say something but add something like "I'm sorry to maybe give advice where it's not welcome... but I'd hate myself if something happened and I didn't say something after thinking I should."
