Help me calm down - baby either slept through or cried it out

Ds nearly 7 months usually wakes around 11-12 in the night for a bottle. I woke up at 4am and realised the sound on the monitor had packed up and he was just lying there awake.

Restarted the monitor to get it working again and he was just lying there making the occasional babble but otherwise silent.

Where our room is he would have to be really screaming for us to hear him particularly as dp has a fan on which makes room noise louder.

I've got him up hes had some milk and is fine.

I can't believe that he coincidentally slept through from 5.40pm the night the monitor packed up as hes never slept through before so I feel terribly guilty.

If he was crying how long would it have been before he gave up? I don't think I'm ever going to sleep again after this!

Aw, I'm sure he self settled.

He seems fine right? Then don't stress. No one can answer your question, but in my opinion it's highly unlikely he was crying for hours and neither of you heard it.

Please don't over think this my children were babies long before baby monitors were invented If your baby had been screeming you would have heard him

He'll be fine, no damage done. Tbh if he was lying there quietly I would have just let him be and not got him up to feed him.

Don’t worry he’s 6 months not 6 days! It won’t have done him any harm and will probably be great for his sleeping.

Thank you I have calmed down a bit having seen that hes ok, it's just the thought of him crying in the night for milk and me not going to him - if in fact that happened.

I'm starting to doubt that he did wake in the night as he wasn't that fussed about his milk until just now when I put him down again so fingers crossed it was a happy coincidence and we may have turned a corner with sleeping through...

I so wish I wasn't so reliant on bloody monitors though they make me an anxious wreck, I know families managed fine before them but still...

I reckon you definitely would have woken up if it was more than just fussing.

“Where our room is he would have to be really screaming for us to hear him”

He would have done though, if he’d woken up wanting something, he’d have really screamed.

They don’t just cry for a bit quietly and then stop if no-one comes, otherwise crying it out would be a doddle tbh, lol.

If he was awake and making babbling noises, he’s not been wanting anything enough yet to cry.

Mynydd · 14/12/2018 07:14

Maybe youve cracked it and he's slept through? That would be great! I don't think it's good to jump up for every little moan as otherwise they never learn to self settle (although this is precisely what I do. DS has just started sleeping through at almost 3 so I'm a good example of what not to do!!)
Maybe without the monitor he called out a little, gave up and went back to sleep. That is really really no bad thing and completely different from crying it out so don't worry Flowers

Here's hoping you now have a baby who sleeps through!!!
