Views on flu jab?

Hi everyone,
Just curious on what other parents experiences are on the flu jab? How did your little ones react after having them? Did it actually work? I haven't even had the chance to consider one for my son this year because he's just been poorly so often that I've not wanted to give it to him incase it made him poorly again, but I'm definitely considering it for next year. Would just like to hear some personal experiences from other parents

My DD had the spray rather than the jab. Zero side effects

It’s not a jab, it’s a spray for kids. Last year we all got the flu over Christmas except the kids, who were the only ones who’d had their vaccinations. It was utterly horrendous and I can’t even imagine how much worse it would have been if the kids had gotten it too. So they will be having it every year without fail and I now have the flu jab too. Neither of them have had any side effects from it.

Hate it when they're not well, it's awful for them.

Mine has had the spray every year since she was 2 (so I think this is our 4th year now?). Always fine and it’s not a big deal. I get flu jab myself every year as I’m asthmatic. I’ll pay privately for it once she ages out of getting them for free.

If your son has been poorly often and you don’t want them to be I’d suggest getting vaccination this year and trying to prevent them getting flu.
It’s a live vaccine but nothing like getting the flu, sniffles and maybe a temperature for a day or two. It does work otherwise the NHS wouldn’t waste valuable money vaccinating every child over the age of 2 😉

Mine too. They are now 6 and 9. Never had any side effects. Never had the flu either. They didn't catch it when DH ( the only unvaccinated one) got it.

My 2 year old ds had the spray for the first time this year. He had a runny nose and a cough for about a week. But tbh that could’ve been entirely unrelated to the vaccination - he’s at nursery and has constant runny noses and coughs from October to May more or less!

I don't get it, everyone commenting on this post has said good things about it, but it seems like most people I know with children complain that it's made them really ill? Think I'm going to get him booked for next year

The people that get ill after a flu jab would have got ill regardless, it's just coincidence.
My DS got a flu jab (the spray up the nose) he kept turning away because he thought the powder would be administered via a needle up his nose.
So basically explain properly it's just a puff of air and not a needle up the nose if they seem a tad alarmed.

You may still be able to get it for this year? Full blown influenza can be really dangerous for kids, as well as a horrible experience for them. Definitely worth protecting them.

Yes, there can be side effects following the spray, which can be mild flu-like symptoms. The key word in that is ‘mild’ - if you get actual flu you are highly unlikely to describe the illness as mild. Which would you prefer - a day or so of your DC being a bit off, or 3 weeks or so of serious illness?

You can probably still get the sniff. It can’t be given to DC whilst they have snot-ridden colds (can’t absorb through nasal passages reliably enough) so there’s always some families seeking it late

My daughter is having hers at school tomorrow so definitely still available, she gets a temp a few days afterwards but other than that she's fine

My almost three year old had it when they first arrived back in October. Seemed to set off a cold that was probably bubbling underneath with set off her croup. Other than that it's been find no reaction nothing.

They are still advertising it on the radio, definitely still time to get it this year. By getting it you could stop not only your child catching flu, but a person who has no immune system or not able to have the jab themselves.

Always get a flu shot.
Immunosuppressed kids rely on herd immunity to stay well.
Read about a rabid anti Vader whose baby got whooping cough and was in ICU. Got all her kids vaccinated after that

Both dc and I had the flu jab this year. Apart from a sore arm for about 24 hours we had no other side effects.

The spray actually is live, but a very, very weakened version. My DC have never had any symptoms from it.
