Has anyone successfully delayed their children’s school entry. As in a summer born birthday starting a year later in the reception class!!

DD isn’t 4 until late July. She has global developmental delay, hypermobility, low muscle tone and speech delay. Her older brother is on the autism spectrum so it’s possible she could be on the spectrum too!

Seriously considering delaying her school start for a year!

We have. It seems to vary county to county how it works. In our county it's down to each individual head, so we had to apply as if our child was starting at 4 then get the head of the school where we were offered a place to sign a form saying they were happy for us to defer. Then we had to apply again the next year. As it happened we didn't get offered a place at the same school but the one we were offered a place at didn't even question it, I did check my child would definitely start in reception, which she did. She's now in year 1 and getting on really well, I definitely feel it was the best thing for her. There's always a chance that the head will decide to move her to her 'correct' year (new head starting soon so theoretically they could) but I don't see how that would benefit anyone so I think it's unlikely.
