Newborn and a cough?

My newborn baby who is 3 weeks old is coughing and it sounds like a dog barking. Is this normal? I didn't know newborns can even get coughs. It's late at night and worrying me in case something is wrong

Try ringing nhs 24? You are right to be worried. Yes they can get coughs, but best to get checked out. Did you get immunized against whopping cough when you were pregnant?

I didn't get the whooping cough injection. What is it? I didn't know that even existed😩 is it dangerous for my baby

Ring 111 or go to a and e urgently.
He’s so little you need to see a dr.
Could be anything.

Whooping cough is a respiratory infection that's having a resurgence of cases. It's characterised by a barking cough and is dangerous for very young babies, get on the phone to 111 and make sure to tell them you weren't immunized. They will be able to offer you good advice, good luck!

You should have been offered it by you midwife, assuming you are in the UK, mine didn't and it was only because I knew I needed it that I asked!
