How do I change my babies routine?

My baby is 12 weeks

He wakes up at 10:30-11am
Eats feeds and plays
Nap at 1pm-2 pm
Eats feeds and plays
Nap at 3:30 and is still asleep!!
Eats feeds and plays
Won’t sleep until 10:30-11pm
Eats
Wakes up at once or twice a night for a feed

I want to get his bedtime and morning wake up time earlier

I’m not happy with his 3 hour nap in the afternoon neither!

Any tips?

Whats wrong with a 3 hour nap????!! My 11 month old naps for 2 hours twice a day, its bliss!

spherisorb · 10/12/2018 20:14

I’m happy with the 3 hour nap but not happy with when it is! Ideally I want him awake at 8/9 and has his 3 hour nap from 2-5 and his bedtime starting at 8.

He can’t seem to stay awake for more than 2 hours though.

@spherisorb his morning wake up time is late. Could you move it forward? My DD is 4 months (20 weeks) and her routine is this:

Wakes at 7, fed around 7.15/7.30am. She generally stays awake til 8.30/8.45ish.

Has a short nap again til 9.30/10 (the timings vary depending on what our plans are for the day).

Has main nap from around 11.30-1.30/2.00 although getting her to have a full nap is challenging, as she can be a pickle with day sleep!

Her last nap of the day tends to be around 4-5, or 3.30-4.30. Again, sometimes she doesn't sleep for that long, but that's just her!

Every second night, she has a bath around 6pm, then a feed, then winding down. We try to get her in bed by 6.45. She doesn't always fall asleep instantly, but is mostly asleep by 7, and if unsettled 7.30. We then wake her for a dreamfeed at 10pm. She goes straight back down after winding etc.

Well he used to wake up at 8am but last two weeks he seems to waking up at 10:30am even though he’s going to bed earlier. He sleeping longer stretches at night though.

Can I just wake him up myself at 9am or will that be disastrous?

Just shift everything by 15 minutes every couple of days until it's where you want. Allegedly. I'd enjoy that 3 hour nap though!

I think I'm all honesty what you describe is absolute heaven.

Some babies are awake wanting fed every hour and a half and want to sleep only on your chest.

Not that I'm bitter Grin I really am. I am.

Yes just wake him up when you want him to start the day. The first few days he will be all out of sorts but will settle down.

DC3 would have wanted to sleep in later in the morning but I had to do the school run so had to wake her up and get her ready. She soon adjusted and napped on the school run and during the day.

Have a look at the 4 month sleep regression. To be honest most babies have a messed up sleep pattern for a while around 4/5 months so don't see why changing now would be a good idea. Try and stick with baby led naps to keep the peace. The 4 month sleep regression hit us hard so my advice would don't break what's not broke.

@Loosemoose28 not every baby goes through the sleep regressions
