Any advice on how to look after children between 1530 and 1730?

How do you arrange care before you finish work?

Advice appreciated

Options people use are:
After school club - sometimes held on the school premises, sometimes they collect from school and take to another building

Childminder

(Depending on age) A lot of Nurseries do after school care (some only up to 8 yrs old, some to end of Primary)

After school Nanny

Some people have Grandparents who are able to help

I believe Au pairs can look after school age children for this amount of time (?)

When I was a student, I looked after a little lad after school until parents got home for a year or so

Then (again, depends on age) some folk are able to work from home and collect dc, settle them and then get back to work, or work later in the evenings.

If you ask at the school they might have information as to what is available locally, or you can google 'Family Information Service' and the name of your Local Authority and they should have a list of wrap around care providers in your area.

I used school wraparound but it wasn't brilliant and my kids didn't like it. In the end I reduced my hours as I couldn't find suitable childcare. It's quite easy when they are little, it's the 10+ years that are difficult. Even as teens they still need someone around after school.

My lg’s school has a Montessori attached 9-12 daily and then the building becomes an Afterschool facility from school finish time 1.20 (infant classes) and 2.20 (rest of school) And stays open until 5.20, they charge 4 an hour per child and collect them from their classroom, give them toast and drink and do their homework with them. I am also a teacher but at another school but I finish at 2.40 usually leave by 3 and collect them at 3.20. I would be lost without that school and their service it’s AMAZING!
