4 month old baby - naps

My baby is a fairly good self settler (most of the time!) I always try and make sure he gets put down drowsy but awake so he can get himself to sleep and 9/10 times it does work. He also sleeps fairly well at night and is able to transition between sleep cycles himself as we can see him settling himself when he enters light sleep. However he doesn't seem able to do this for naps. He is normally pretty happy with a short nap in the morning, but come afternoon you can see he is still so tired but just can't get himself back to sleep again. I try and help him but it often leads to him getting so grumpy and tired that I have to give up as he wakes himself up crying. If I didn't think he wanted more sleep I wouldn't worry but it is so obvious he does. Poor little thing. Is this something they generally grow out of? Is there anything I can do to help him? As a side note, he used to have lovely long afternoon naps until he hit wonder weeks leap 3 and then it all went downhill and never recovered!

My 3.5 month old is the same. Sleeps ok at night. 7-7 with 2 maybe three get ups an average night. Can self settle. However, now cat naps for just 30mins a time. As you say, fine until evening as my daughter is over tierd too!

No advice as I’ve no idea what to do about it. I’ve tried trying to resettle her but it doesn’t work. Hopefully it’s something they will grow out of!

I've just tried to resettle - made sure I was there ready to get in quick and hopefully stop him waking up fully but no luck and the screaming quickly started 🙄 hopefully they both grow out of it soon!

Mines having none of it. Even tried to let her fully cry a bit this time as she’s so over tierd it’s ridiculous. But nope...

Fingers crossed..

.....I was like you once...baby self settled, great naps (2.5hrs) 2x night feeds.
4 month regression took our naps (I now use Huckleberry to help with that)
6 month regression is taking our self settling. I used to put baby down drowsy and 15minutes of quiet fingerplay later she would drift off. I've now been sat feeding (mummy shape dummy rather) for about2.5hrs.
Will the 9month regression take our 2x night feeds and turn them into dust, I wonder?

It's just a phase, they said.
Won't happen to us, I said.

Will DD be one of those "lazy" teenagers and hopefully let me have some sleep in about 15yrs time, I wonder.

I do LOVE THE LIVING SH*T out of her though. No matter when or how much(little) we sleep Grin

Awwww oh god poor you!! And her. And you're right we love them unconditionally. For our sins haha 😆

My DD took 30 min naps till she was around 7 months. She grew out of it on her own, almost overnight. Everything is a phase, chances are his naps will extend as he grows.

As for 'self-settling', it's not something a lot of babies seem able to do until they are older. My DD certainly never did until she was nearly 1.
