4yo holding wee, UTIs

DS is 4.4. He toilet trained quite late, he was 3.5, but picked it up quickly and we had few accidents aside from the first week (he’s still in a pull up at night though).

He’s an extremely bright, articulate, and happy little boy but he is driving me mad by ignoring the urge to wee. He had a UTI back at Easter, which was a few weeks into him being in pants, and one again this week.

I have to prompt him at home to wee, or he just holds it until he has to sprint to the loo, which has resulted the occasional accident. He’s better with poos, but even then sometimes I have to remind him. He barely drinks a drop of water unless reminded.

We’ve explained how important it is to drink plenty and listen to his body, and the hospital doctor told him he needed to drink more. I don’t know if it’s laziness, or that he doesn’t like to stop what he’s doing, if he admits he’s been holding it he just changes the subject or says ‘I’ll do it next time.’ I’m constantly worrying about school and if he’s going when he needs to - this week he’s brought his water bottle back full 3 times.

Anyone had a stubborn wee holder?
