Clueless FTM - formula advice!

Jvx01 · 01/12/2018 15:56

I have been feeding my 6 week old DS Aptamil Profutura and am concerned he’s not getting on with it. He poos once a day every day and it is always explosive and pure liquid form! Is that normal??? I really have no idea. I’ve googled but doesn’t seem to be diarrhoea as it’s only once a day.

Would switching formula potentially help? And if so, can I change right away or do I have to introduce it somehow?

Advice appreciated!

Thanks x

I really wanted to use the fancy aptamil for my DS but unfortunately he did not get on with it :(

I thought he has some mild reflux which meant he spat up a lot but without pain; once I had switched formula he stopped spitting up so much and eventually stopped almost completely.

You may want to try a formula without egg in it which is basically every other formula on the market!

It might help - give it a go and see. Won’t do any harm. Maybe just move to regular Aptamil, or even Cow & Gate (they’re apparently the same formula, just different marketing).

Formula is so tightly regulated that there is barely any difference between them despite the marketing and fancy branding. Cow & Gate is essentially the same as Aptamil (but cheaper!). SMA is made by different producers but to essentially the same recipe. I'd swap to see if there is any improvement and get a drs appointment as well.

Thanks so much for the advice. Switched to normal aptamil and seen instant improvement! No more liquid 💩s lol. And bonus it’s cheaper and you can buy it in Tesco express!
