Length of newborn breast feeds?

My week old baby is only feeding for 10-20mins at a time before he has had enough. He won’t go any longer than this, and then needs another 10min feed an hour later. Is this normal? Google says feed should be 45mins or so which worries me that my baby isn’t getting enough!

Try not to worry, each baby is totally different. Mine was feeding for 5-10 minutes every 30-60 minutes until about 3 months. As long as baby is putting on weight then I wouldn’t worry.
Even now at 7 months he’s still a snacker every or so, unless we’re keeping super busy!

Every hour or so that should say!

As long as you are getting through plenty of nappies I would wait until the first weigh in before worrying

At his 5 day check he’d put weight on but I was supplementing with a bit of formula at the time. Since then he’s been EBF. Next weigh in is Tuesday so fingers crossed he’s gained again.

I have twins, one is done in ten min and the other smooches in for the long haul!

Is it 10-20 minutes on one side? Do you then put him on the other side?

@orlande yes around 8-10mins on one side, then I’ll switch and he’ll just do a couple minutes on the other.

Sounds fine then so long as he's gaining weight.

My baby used to do 10mins, 15mins max at each feed. Only used to feed on 1 side at each feed. She used to feed every 3/4 hours when newborn

And i only realised how efficient she was when we moved to bottles and she downed a 7 oz bottle in about 3 mins!!
