Sorry for clickbait title but just got my first paycheck after starting a new job. It feels good. This job is the best paying job I've ever had (city salary) and the most senior..and I can't believe I'm here sometimes. Just thoroughly glad I've been able to keep my career going now mine are going to Secondary school. Hang in there folks!!

Well done! Just about to start mat leave with second and leaving a very well.paud, senior role. Who knows what future brings but good to know you can go back to it!

Hisashiburi - you definitely can. I'm about 10 years down the line from you now that mine are going to Secondary school . It's been a struggle but honest to god, having kept my career up throughout the last 10 years has been a slog. I took out 2 years also to stay at home with the kids so don't be afraid to that. However long gaps can be detrimental. Financially I am much better off even with the extortionate çhildcare in the beginning (paying for 2 at nursery). What I found was that I was getting headhunted and recruited for senior posts and honestly think that's due to retaining a solid CV. More senior you are, more flexible working conditions too in my experience.

Agreed..the amount of flexibility I get is really good at my level
