10 month old suddenly being extremely clingy / needy

DS is suddenly really really clingy with me, he wants to be held / sitting on my lap constantly and I can't even go out of sight without him having a full on meltdown. He's never been like this before and is usually very chilled and happy!

He's is almost 10 months, he had croup 2 weeks ago, then a cold and then he started nursery last week - just for 1 day a week (he's used to going to a childminder and with grandma) He's also getting through his 6th and 7th teeth at the moment - however he's never been that bad with teething. He is also prone to constipation so thats an ongoing problem and his poops are making him cry.

Is it just a mixture of these things causing the clingyness? I want to comfort him but I also want to be able to eat my lunch and go to the toilet. Sad

Sounds normal to me especially with starting nursery. It's so hard when they go through phases like this. This too shall pass x

Separation anxiety is quite common at this age.

Totally normal at this age because of separation anxiety and lots of changes. Best thing is lots of extra cuddles and closeness and just wait it out til it passes. The more secure they feel now, the more likely they are to be confident and independent once this phase is over.

Thanks all. Its such a drastic change in him, it makes me miss the way he used to be! Hoping it'll just be a phase.

We went to a baby group yesterday and he just wanted to sit on my lap the whole time, wasn't interested in playing or anything, it was awful!

My 10 mth old can be pretty clingy too if I'm out in the kitchen he will crawl & hang onto my trousers & want picking up all the time.
He's been with me mostly since born so it's me he always wants! It can be hard getting things done but guess it's just a phase..
I've not gone bk to work yet (one week left) think it's me that'll have separation anxiety more, hate thought leaving him esp as don't like job.
