Do I HAVE TO take the bars off dd2's cot and make it a bed or can I leave them on forever?

she has a cotbed

is a bad sleeper and I just know that once those bars are off, she will be appearing downstairs every 5 mins

or in our room

she is 3 in August

is there some VALID REASON why they can't stay on forever and ever amen or will the Cot Police come and get me?

You could try a bed rail? I had the same problem with my DS, give him a bedrail (hes 5 and still has it) he didnt master climbing over that till he was 4, worth a try!

DS flaps about alot in the night though, I took the bedrail off once spent the whole night picking him up off the floor!

If she's happy and you're happy I'd leave them on. Probably by the age of 10 or so she may complain a little more though .

the problem is, a lot of the time, say 3 times a week or so, she wakes up in the middle of the night and says MUMMYDADDYBED

and so she comes in our bed

now, I said this week, because I am clearly INSANE, that if she went back to sleep in her cot, we would make it into a bed this weekend

so now she is expecting it

grrrrrrrr

can you try it and say if she gets out then the bars will be going straight back on...

may keep her in a bit longer!

when i moved my son to a bed we were saved by the safety gate still being at the top of the stairs. We had two weeks were he didn't realise that now he was in a bed he could get out by himself and after that all hell broke loose. he was in and out like a yo yo. i tried doing the super nanny thing were you don't speak you just keep putting them back into bed but it became a complete game with him running onto the landing shouting "put me back in bed". most of the time he was back out before i'd reached the door. in the end, because i thought i would really lose my temper, i shut the safety gate and left him to shout from the top of the stairs. after 20 mins he slammed his bedroom door in a huff and went to sleep. now, on the rare occasions he starts to act up i just tell him that i'm only going downstairs until he's fallen asleep. we still have the safety gate and i would be very reluctant to lose it. i tell him it's to keep the dog from going upstairs!

both my girls' cotbeds had bars taken off when they were about 3. no hurry oo and cotpolice pretty lax

leave 'em on olive - mine wuld still have them on if I could - and dd1 is 7.

if she's happy witht he bars on then leave them there until she actually climbs out.

my ds is 3 in august as well and still has those lovely bars on the side of his cot!! it is a cotbed so plenty of room and he hasnt tried to climb out so until he does its staying like that and i will avoid the cot police when i do take them off i will put a gate on his doorway which i did with dd !

ok, so I will leave them on then, that is the general message

I will have to think of another bribe or hope she forgets I said I would take them off
