Thumb-sucking

Hi, we've been told by our dentist that 2.5yo DD must stop sucking her thumb as her lower jaw is being pushed back. She sucks it a lot - when she's upset, watching TV, falling asleep (obviously..) and has a bunny comforter that she sniffs at the same time. She LOVES her bunny so I'd hate to have to take that away from her but we need to do something to stop the thumb sucking habit. DH tried rubbing cumin on her thumb but that didn't make any difference!

Has anyone successfully managed to wean their child off the thumb and if so how did you do it?!

TIA!
