Feeling bad for being angry with DS1 10 for not going back to bed because he was scared of ghosts.

I feel bad now. I did start of being nice and explaining there was nothing in the house (He said he heard noises upstairs) and that nothing could hurt him.
He is 10 btw!
He got upset and i ended up getting cross because he didn't want to go back to bed.
I handled it so badly.
He has gone up now but he had started crying.
I am sure there was a better way i should of dealt with it.

I tell dd to tell the ghosts she has to go to sleep now, so night night

I used to say "there are no ghosts" but now I think otherwise

He'll still love you in the morning.

I have this guilt thing regularly, too.

I've done exactly the same with dd2, torty, if it's any comfort. I get ratty if the kids don't settle.

Little light on, door open, good luck charm under the pillow?

Don't beat yourself up, tomorrow everything will be sunny again and there'll be another time when you can try to handle it better.

I have told him i don't know if there are ghosts or not but i have never seen one.
Not heard him up and about since.

I will apologise in the morning for being grumpy with him.

Thanks Bubble and pointy.
The hall light is on and stays on all night so that they can see their way to the loo if needed.

Why is he saying he is scared of ghosts?

I remember getting a bit fed up with ds2 when he wouldn't got bed in his room and kept asking me if the house was haunted. He was about 8 or 9 I think.

Then one day I saw the ghost, and realised I hadn't been listening to him.

Once we dealt with the ghost, all was well.

3littlefrogs · 21/06/2007 18:04

sorry - "go to bed", not "got bed".

annobal · 21/06/2007 18:10

Don't worry about it - it sounds as though he was over tired and will be fine in the morning.

My DS (2 1/2) is like this with monsters so we have been making friends with the monsters and if they come to play when DS is asleep or trying to get to sleep he tells them that he is trying to sleep so they must go away please.

You could ask him to draw the ghosts and get him to speak about them, what they look like, what scares him about them etc etc.
