Help me work out what's going on with 6mo

Sorry this might be a bit long but I need to get it all out to try and make sense of it.

Ds2 is 6 months old and in the last week (since we moved him into own room and tried him on solids) has turned into a different baby.

He's been on anti reflux milk since the beginning. We tried him on baby rice and he reacted violently so on advice of hv I took him to gp.

He said give him gaviscon in his usual milk. He has a bit of a cough so said hold off weaning again until cough has gone as that would be making his reflux worse..

I then read on packet that gaviscon shouldn't be used with a thickening agent so checked with pharmacist and she said don't use with anti reflux milk get normal stuff.

He now refuses all milk. I've tried normal milk with gaviscon, anti reflux milk with no gaviscon, then with gaviscon and hes refusing it all. He just wants to sleep.

His nappies are normal and he still plays a bit but he's nowhere near his normal self. I weighed him and since his last weigh in a couple of months ago hes dropped from 91st to 75th centile - although not lost weight it's just slowed right down.

I can't feel any teeth coming through and hes not dribbling so don't think it's teething.

I have given Calpol just before feeds in case his throat is sore from coughing but that makes no difference.

I did think if he's poorly hes just lost his appetite but he seems hungry - hes grabbing the bottle and putting it in his mouth, taking a couple of sucks before pushing it away before crying and pulling it back again. So he must be hungry.

Does anyone have any advice please im worried sick?

I would go to the doctors. Sorry no advice other than that Flowers

How much milk in total has he had in the last 24 hours op? Could be a bug, could be teething (although I would expect calpol to help that), have you have his ears checked?

This sounds so similar to my DD, in the end it turned out it was the bottles that were causing the most problem.

So I switched from TT to MAM and used SMA Anti reflux milk with no Gaviscon and this seemed to do the trick.

I hope this helps and good luck! Xx

He normally has 37oz but for the last few days has struggled to get 15oz down him.

He usually stays up for a couple of hours between naps but he can't make an hour before wanting to go back down.

Interesting point about bottles did that help with reflux?

They made a huge difference, I couldn't recommend MAM bottles enough. I did have to get size 3 teats though, as the reflux milk is quite thick.

I had the exact same problem, Introduced solids at 5 months and he refused all milk. I get 15oz in him every day and just give him 3 whole meals. Think he's just decided he prefers food. My lo cries out of hunger, I give him the bottle, he takes a few slurps then throws a paddy till I get solids out. Been like it from 5 months x

I wish I could blame it on the solids frazzledsquirrel but he literally had half a teaspoon of baby rice and started watching violently then was sick. The gp advised us to wait until his cough was better before trying again but I don't see how the two are linked.

He's awake now just lying quietly not asking for milk even though his last 'feed' (4oz) was at 5pm yesterday Sad

I’d get him straight to the GP. He doesn’t sound well and strangers on the internet are no substitute for medical advice. Hope he feel better soon opFlowers
