I’m a first time mum to a 6 week old boy, who was born at 37weeks.
I aim to get out of the house daily for either a walk, shopping, etc. And spend time daily talking and singing to my little one. However, the time I spend cuddled up to him watching tv, I feel guilty- like a bad mum and that I’m not doing enough. Is it ok to just sit with my baby, or should I constantly be entertaining him when he’s awake?
Just feel as if I’m not doing enough!

You are cuddling him!! How is that not enough?? Truly it is all he needs!!

At that age all they want is to be close to you and have a full stomach.

Sitting cuddling your six week olds baby is being a good mum imo!

There will be plenty of time to get out an about when he's a bit older but for now relax while you can and enjoy the cuddles Smile

I type this with my sleeping 3 year old newborn on my kneeGrin

At 6 weeks that’s about all the entertainment they need tbh!

Sounds perfect! You definitely don't need to be worrying about entertaining him at that age. He'd get overstimulated if you tried to keep him busy the whole time. Honestly make the most of the chance while it lasts!

Oh OP - enjoy the sofa cuddles. Soon he'll be a toddler who's charging around and you'll wish he'd sit down and snuggle!

FartnissEverbeans · 17/11/2018 05:06

Enjoy it because very soon he will be running you ragged!

Unlimited cuddles are the absolute best thing about a newborn baby.

Besides, even sitting quietly having a snuggle can be quite stimulating for them - think about all the new sights and smells and sensations he’s experiencing. Overstimulated babies aren’t happy babies. Quiet time is important, to give him time to make sense of the world.

Congratulations OP Smile
