how old were they when you moved them into a normal bed?

I moved my DS at about 18mo nappyaddict, but it is a very low pine bed. I did use a bed guard for a while though, then cushions on the floor. He fell out a few times, but he's five now and he still manages that sometimes

ds was 2 years 8 months

straight to proper bed with bed guard

guard off just before 4th birthday

yaddayah · 20/06/2007 13:12

Both aged two, didn't get a bed guard, but put a bean bag and cushions on the floor next to the bed (other side against the wall)

Never had a problem

we moved dd at about 2 1/2 to a full sized single. Guard on the side.

Toothyboy · 20/06/2007 13:13

Ds1 was just over 3 - no bedguard - he only fell out 2 or 3 times.

pooka · 20/06/2007 13:15

dd was 2. Straight from cot to normal single. No bed guard, but put spare duvet & cushions next to the bed for a while. But she never fell out, as far as I know!

Soph73 · 20/06/2007 14:12

DS was 2 and went straight from cot to bed. One side was right next to the wall and had a bedguard on the other side, which we removed because it just got in the way. We did put cushions & spare duvet on the floor when we went to stay at my mums but only because ds's bed is a low pine one and my mums is higher. He only ever fell out once

Just after her 2nd birthday, she choose the paint, sticker motif and "helped" dh decorate her room.

We were given one of those single beds whch make into a double. She has a bed guard. Never had a probelm goes to bed with no fuss and stays all night.

MrsWaggsnapps · 20/06/2007 16:27

2 yrs again, from cot to pine 3ft bed and DS loves it. We did have a bed guard for a year but have now got rid of it and just put a rag rug by the bed.

BTW we went for the argos guest bed which gives you an underbed that pulls out and stands up making it a double or two singles and this has been FAB.

bessa · 20/06/2007 16:37

my little boy went into a bed early, (mainly mine !!!) but is now coming up to three and has a single bed with a bed guard

boo64 · 20/06/2007 21:48

Stupid question but although the bed guard is primarily to stop them falling out when asleep, does it also stop them going wandering in the night?

Novacane · 20/06/2007 22:00

mine was 2.5 in a single divan and no guard. Has only fallen out twice.

nappyaddict · 21/06/2007 08:09

if they were in a normal (but not low) bed could they get in and out themselves?

Ds has been in a normal sized single bed for 10 days now, the day after his second birthday. One side is against a wall, with a bed guard on the other side. He fell out the first night but I think thats because he tried getting out whilst half asleep, has been fine every night since.
