Husband mean to baby?

I have a 5 week old. She is usually quite easy going and content: cries when she needs something - nappy change, fed, winded, cuddled... the usual!
She pretty much always likes to be cuddled when she's awake (Although isn't awake for long so falls asleep on us within minutes). We're all told you can't spoil a baby with cuddles but my husband thinks we should leave her to "cry it out" so she can learn to settle herself. I think she's too young for that but I see his point about creating a needy baby who can never settle without us. Health visitor agrees with me but husband still thinks he's right. First baby for us both so we are learners!
Any advice? Experience?

I’ve just done the Five to Thrive training check it out it’s really good. Babies should not be left to cry it out in distress. It’s ok to leave a baby if it’s just a little grumble but do not let a baby get into a state of fight or flight as this is damaging to a babies development. You can not over spoil a baby, attachment is very important and helps babies brains to develop. PSE is the first important milestone in EYFS and that is for a reason!

You will never look back on this time and think 'I wish I cuddled my baby less'.
Definitely read about the fourth trimester.

You can't spoil a baby. You’re right to give comfort to your lo. She needs it. Tell your dh to imagine he’d only just been on earth 5 weeks with new sights, smells, noises and sensations to contend with after been in a warm, safe cocoon for 9 months! Newborns have no concept of what it is to be spoilt. They just have the basic need to feel safe and loved.

She's biologically too young to self soothe
