When did you change to forward facing car seat?

We have a Joie Every stage car seat & I'm wondering when others moved it to forward facing?
DD has only just turned one, so I feel like she's to small for forward facing but I'm really struggling to get her in the car seat!!
She's always been on the 95th centile for her height so she is quite a big girl, but now when I try to put her in the car seat she's kicking her feet off the car seats and tensing her body up, then standing up so it's a battle every day to get her in the car! Dp feels like it's time to put her forward facing but I'm not really keen. Are the guidelines for keeping them rearward facing until 2 really achievable?

It used to be 9 months to 15 months and based on weight (9kg). Not sure when this keeping them backwards for so long came in and would be interested to see the statistics on whether it really is safer. My DD's switched quite late at 15 months due to being light, and it was a struggle for the last couple of months as their legs were too long

Mine have all gone forward facing around age 1. I don't actually drive but they're in the car with dh or my mum about once or twice a week.

We've just got a car and we bought a ff car seat Dd is 3.5 however I am now about to put her into an extended rear facing (to 25kg) car seat as we lost a friend in a car accident and I have decided I want her rear facing as long as is physically possible.
