Reflux

Baby has reflux, so uncomfortable after a feed, being sick. Only happy when she’s being held against my chest. I’m holding her now and I can hear things gurgling inside her.

I took her to the GP and he said he’s not going to do anything, he’s going to wait for the consultants input. Problem is we don’t have a consultant appointment yet and it’s likely to be in about 4 weeks. She was born at 31 weeks and is currently 7 weeks old and is on nutriprem 2, which I think may be making the problem worse because it’s such a rich formula. I’m at a loss of what to do, just carry on holding her upright and wait for the appointment? Take her back to the GP? Just hope she grows out of it? The GP said he didn’t want to prescribe gaviscon because it could make it worse?

I’m rambling I think but we’re on day three of taking it in turns to sleep because she cries when she’s down, she was a really content baby before that slept really well and it’s just gradually got worse and worse.

I’m really not sure on this one sorry. My only suggestion is to get MNHQ to move your thread over to the Premature Birth Section. There’s sone experienced MNers in there who may be able to help Thanks

Hi op, I so feel your pain, reflux is just awful.

I have no experience with prem babies, but my DD did have reflux from 6 weeks. I'd definitely go back to your GP, or maybe ask to see a different doctor at the practice for a second opinion. My DD was initially prescribed Infant Gaviscon before moving onto Ranitidine.

But we had the most success by switching to SMA Anti reflux milk and MAM bottles.

If you have no luck with your doctor, maybe ring your HV for some advice.

Xx
