WWYD - changing teats

DD will be 5 months next week. We use MAM bottles and she's on size 2 teats. The teats are looking a bit discoloured and manky now and I'm aware you're not meant to use them for more than 3 months (which we have now reached) and should replace them. The guidance on size 3 teats in 4mo+ but obviously all baby's are different and it's just a guide.

Sometimes I think she's getting frustrated that the milk comes out slowly and she's clearly sucking very hard but more often then not she's fine. She's always been a bit of a diva about feeding so I'm nervous to change anything. I've tried using size 3s and some bottles have been fine, perhaps a bit spluttery, others disastrous and she refuses the bottle!

I don't really want to spend more money on size 2 teats if she's going to outgrow them. But what should I do? Carry on using the size 2s despite 3mo advice? Switch to size 3s and make her learn to use them?

I thought they only needed to be replaced if damaged? Mine are a bit off colour now too but I thoroughly wash, rinse, and sterilize them. They're just stained not damaged per se.

I have a 5 month old and use Mam. Just this week I've bought size 3 teets to try her with. I think the flow was a bit much for her and she actually had less milk. I'll try again in a week or so. I wasn't planning on replacing my size 2 teets - didn't realise they had a shelf life of months!

I've just been googling and not sure where I've got the 3mo from sorry! The MAM site says look for signs of damage! So will stick with size 2s for now, thanks Smile

I'd just buy one pack of 3's to see if she's really ready to go up.

My 6.5 month old is still good on 2, she can drain the bottle really fast. Every baby is different though ofc.

Thanks @BackInRed I've tried but it's been hit and miss. Interesting that your 6.5mo is still on 2s though! I won't worry about it for now then Smile

My LO didn't need to 'learn to use size 3 teats'.i just switched one day and that was it. No drama or anything
