Any tips for ditching the dummy?

My son has had his dummy from a couple of weeks old, we've managed to get it down to only being used for naps and overnight sleep but I want to get rid of it at least for daytime naps before he goes to nursery in January.

Does anybody have any tips? He doesn't particularly show any interest for toys to cuddle and I don't really like the idea of cutting the dummy (which I've seen recommended a lot).

Once ds started nursery we reinforced he was a big boy now, he binned it himself within a few weeks. No tears, no stress (mine!).
Don't put both of you though ditching the dummy +Christmas (busy time and you need sleep) +starting nursery. Best way is his terms though obviously you need the powers of persuasion /outright bm -

See the thing is I don't want him to take it to nursery. He's 9 months old so we cant talk him out.

We've worked hard to get it down to just sleep time and I don't want him to just be given it anytime at nursery.

I've heard (and seen myself) that it will just be given at any time through the day to settle babies!

I would keep it for the time being with him being about to start nursery. I think you just need to make your wishes clear. In our nursery they keep the dummies in the room they sleep in and put them away when the babies wake up. See how it goes - you’ll soon see if he has the dummy when you pick him up - if so, you need to speak to them about it.

I was assuming nursery /about 3!! Nursery will easily be able to distract him without it, yet settle him for a nap with it!!
Lots of teeth to get yet op, wouldn't be wanting to do that dummy free!!

Mine never had dummies. Many children don’t need them at all. I would get rid now. Way before Christmas. Read “The Last Noo Noo” for what to do.

We just sent DD to nursery at 12 months without it. Everything was new anyway so she just accepted that the dummy didn't go with nursery. Other kids have them but it soesnt seem to bother her. She naps without it there too.
