Tandem feeding

I’m currently heavily pregnant and due to have my baby DD by the end of the month. My DS - who’ll be 3 in January - is still fairly regularly breastfeeding and shows no sign of stopping, so I assume I’ll be tandem feeding come December.

I don’t know anyone in real life who has done this and was just after some advice and/or knowledge on logistics and practicalities from anyone who has done this as I never thought I’d be in this position and can’t really get my head around how it will all work!

Do you ensure the baby is always fed first so that they get the colostrum? Should the baby be allowed to fully feed both sides to satisfaction and only then is the toddler allowed to feed? Or can you feed simultaneously?!

As you can see, I’m clueless (!) and any help from anyone who has done this, would be utterly gratefully received. Thank you!

I don't think I can help personally but I know of a fab Facebook group. It's called breastfeeding older babies and beyond. I guarantee there are loads of people tandem feeding on there.
I have a friend who does it and she has one boob for each child! It whether that's a 'thing' I don't know 🤷🏻‍♀️
Good luck, hope you get some good info. And well done, you're amazing!

Thanks so much for taking the time to post Lilly - I’ll go hunt out that Facebook group!

I don’t feel amazing, I currently feel like a huge beached whale who can’t move without grunting, and huffing and puffing! Blush But thanks for the encouragement Smile
