What should I be doing with my baby?

I have a two month old PFB who is an absolute joy. I am loving being a mummy and just wondering what I should be doing with him to help him learn and develop? Other than obviously lots of cuddles! Any ideas gratefully received! Thanks in advance.

At two months, I don't think there's a huge amount that you can do with them except for cuddles as you say, and also talk! Mine seemed to enjoy me prattling away about putting the washing machine on and watering the plants, and liked to be carried around with me whilst I did these things. I got very good at doing things one handed!

At that age not much, they're just at the grub stage. Eat, sleep, poop and make a noise.

I used to like quiet awake times where baby was awake but content. I'd sit across the settee or bed and lie baby on my bended knees so they were facing me and watching my face and repeatedly stick my tongue out.

They do it back, it's pretty cool.

Other than that, I can't think of anything.

Talk, sing, tummy time or time in the sling.

Anything you like, with them in the sling. Putter round the house, go for a walk, go to the supermarket, go to the cinema, go to a museum. They don't need anything at that stage except milk, cuddles and being talked to. They won't really need more than that for quite a long time yet. Songs are nice too.

Haha I like that term "The grub stage"

Pretty accurate- just talking and singing to them. You can show them 'newborn sensory images' (high contract pictures). You can Google image search the term.

I have a 6.5 week old at the moment, my third.

In between feeding and sleeping I love holding her so she can see my face and talking and singing to her. She stares at me so intently, a tiny smile appears at one side of her mouth then grows into a huge gummy grin!

She moves her mouth along with mine a bit and makes little chatting sounds!

I do songs with fingers like tommy thumb. Repeat sounds to find one that she laughs at

She plays on her play mat trying to reach out for the toys, she’s also happy just lying on the floor watching the other dc. messing around

She is happy watching leaves for ages so I put her where she can see trees or bushes - even through the window is good.

Everything is brand new so even simple things can be fascinating to little babies
