Bambino mio solo- always leak

Desperate for advice, I'm using these nappies but they leak over half the time?!?! Son is over 7kg (15.5 lb), have washed them many times, do them as tight as possible (sometimes have mum guilt for leaving marks on him after I remove them because I do them tightly), have tried a booster and not using any barrier cream.

Are they actually usable nappies?! Am I doing something wrong?! Is this generally a thing with this brand?!

Thank you so much in advance!!

Is he tall? I found they work best for taller babies as they are long on the rise. They worked for me until my DD was 8-9 months then she started soaking through them within an hour and a booster made them too bulky to fit under her clothes. As I only had 3, I sold them on in favour of other brands.

You will find some work better than others with your child depending on his body shape.

Thanks very much for your reply. He's 97th centile for length but I guess he could be the wrong shape... What brands worked for you?

We struggled massively with mios. In fact any of the pockets or all in ones, because we couldnt bulk them up enough to absorb the huge wees DS did & still get a good fit.
My DS is 91st centile, we have stuck with little lambs & tots bots bamboozles. Since changing at about 5 weeks we have had no leaks & he goes overnight with an extra booster between the nappy & the wrap with no problems.

If you have a nappy library near you perhaps see if they can loan you a few different brands to trial

That's interesting, possibly the exact same problem. I'll look for a nappy library... Had never heard of them. Thank you :-)

You should be able to find one through Google 🙂 i can highly recommend LLs & bamboozles tho, with a bombproof wrap (we use LLs) & a couple of extra boosters

I didn't like 2 part nappies so I stuck to AIO and pockets. My favourites are Bumgenius Elemental plus Freetimes (can move absorbency to front or back in both depending on if you have boy or girl) and Motherease Wizard Unos. I also have a number of Tots Bots Easyfit Stars but they take a while to dry and we got compression leaks a lot as she got older.
Saying that, my DD isn't as large as your boy

Just wanted to check when you said washed many times that this is without fabric conditioner? And not tumble dried?

Different nappies work for different babies so it might be that they're just the wrong shape. Doing the nappy too tight may be counterproductive as compression can make it harder for the nappy to absorb liquid. There's no substitute for getting the right stuffing - a quick wicking layer and a really absorbent booster make a huge difference.

I’m a bit late to this thread, but I had to come on to say I didn’t get on with mio solos at all. I also have a tall baby and they just didn’t seem to contain anything. Tbf, I only tried them a couple of times and maybe if I tried again with a decent booster they’d be ok, but I gave up.

I now use a mixture of bamboozle stretch, bumgenius birth to potty AIOs and terries with heavy duty hemp boosters and motherease rikki wraps. I prefer these, as they du so quickly. The bamboozles contain a lot but take ages to dry. I like the bumgenius too.

I’m planning to get some bamboo terries and more wraps soon. I really like them and am amazed at how easy it is to fold them.
