Always poorly- is this normal?

My LO always seems to be ill. If it’s not colds, it’s sickness bugs, conjunctivitis, ear infections everything, we can’t go more than two weeks without a bug of some sorts throughout her first year. I am at the stage where I avoid soft play as she seems to 100% get something, she doesn’t even have to be around other children and still picks stuff up. We have had two hospital stays from sickness and I am not exaggerating - 15/20+ GP visits/out of hours. Is this normal?? I’m having to cancel her 1 year jabs because she’s too ill to have them and she’s 13 months so really needs to have them soon. She’s not small, she eats well, she’s kept warm.. I literally just don’t get it but it’s so frustrating!!

Yes, it’s pretty normal. I probably wouldn’t go to the GP for most of those (except ear infections or bronchiolitis). Most will just clear on their own and won’t need antibiotics. But yes, very normal. Mine was sick from November to May every year (and so was I! Vitamin c, zinc and echinacea helped a lot) probably til she was 3 or 4.

It’s usually with the sickness we have been to the drs as it seems to escalate quickly with dehydration. Oh and we had a bout of really really bad nappy rash which probably took about 5 visits but luckily that is sorted!

My two were often poorly over the Winter period & often so was my dh & I

Young children have a immature immune system & are prone to picking everything up.

As they have got older it has improved but the journey was sometimes painful

Mine is the same age and we are going through the same. Most recently we've had 4 days of proper recovery from a d&v bug before she got croup and tonsillitis. It has been constant for the last 2-3 months.

Frustrating for all involved and I'm so sad of seeing her under the weather.

From what you say though, you do perhaps need to reconsider what you are going to the GP for.

The nappy rash was blisters and needed a lot of attention and work to get it sorted.

She’s had antibiotics for an ear infection. Then went on to have a sickness bug... had to go back and change to an ear drip antibiotic .. followed by another appointment to have to go to hospital. She had a period of holding her head which puzzled the GP and ended up being a water infection- almost all the visits have been needed, we have been very unlucky it seems.

DD1 was always ill in her first year. Didn’t always necessitate Dr’s visits but she had impetigo, h,f&m, ear infections, colds... you name it.
DD2 on the other hand is 3.5 and has NEVER been to the Dr’s!
