AIBU Next to me crib 14 weeks

I am a ftm and have a 14 week old baby boy, he sleeps in a next2me crib with the side down next to me.
My mum thinks I should have put the side up by now otherwise I'll "end up with a 5 year old sleeping in my bed". We are moving him into his own room in Jan when he will be 6 months old.
I just feel he is too little for the side to go up (was thinking I may do it when he is 4 months) - AIBU, is my mum right?
Thanks.

We had a next to me and DS slept in it with the side down til he was nine months. We then had him in his own cot at the bottom of the bed for a couple of weeks before moving him into his own room. He’s two now. I brought him in with me when he wasn’t well the other week and he didn’t want to be there! Wanted his own bed to whine in.

We've got a next to me crib and I have only pulled the side up for the first time this week as DS has started barrel rolling and I was worried he'd get out of it. He's 6 months old.

Yanbu - being able to see and touch the baby is the whole bloody point of a Next2Me crib.

And you can't spoil a baby by loving them too much, or giving them too much attention or affection. SIDBU.

Ignore her. I had a snuzpod but had to have side up as it didn’t fit safely side down with our divan bed. Once DD moved from snuzpod into cot she never really settled so I used to sleep with her in my bed from when she was about 12 months. I did wonder if I was building a rod for my own back. Am pregnant again & gave up on a cot/cot bed for DD and turned the spare bedroom into her bedroom - with a king size bed (I bought bed guards) 😄 she’s two and would be outraged if I tried to make her sleep in my bed now and she wants her bedroom/bed rather than mine. Long story short, her sleeping arrangements as a baby have had no impact on her sleeping arrangements now!

DS (appalling sleeper as a baby) slept with us until he was 6 months and then in our room until he was 1.

He then moved to his own room without issues and is a really good sleeper now (aged 8), has been ever since around the age of 1.

We also got dire warnings that he would be in our bed forever but they’ve come to nothing Wink

No, she’s being ridiculous. We bedshared (in our bed) with our dd by choice until she was 3 (because we wanted to). When she wanted to move to her own room full time she just said so and off she went to her own room and sleeps great. My 8 month old currently sleeps with me most nights (teething) but he equally sleeps well in his own room. Do what works and gets you all the most sleep. You’ll figure out what’s next when you’re ready for a change.
