Is she training herself??

novice here re toilet training and dd1 is a whole different story.

Dd2 for the last two days has been putting on undies when she is sent for her afternoon nap. Yesterday when I got her up and saw she had undies on made her go on the potty. Again today when I saw she had put pants on - made her go to the potty. Each time she has done a wee - cue usual encouragement and sticker on chart.

Later on today as I was coming home - it appears she has taken herself to the potty - albeit with a little puddle beside it too.

Is she training herself and should I just go with this new idea. Week after next we are starting charting and toilet timing with dd1(who has sn) - putting dd1 on the loo every hour and then working out a toilet timing schedule. Is it worth doing it then when we are at home for days on end rather than rushing about as we do during the week of term time???

Eidsvold - how old is DD2? It definitely sounds as though she is showing signs of sorting this out herself. My DD1 and DD2 were both 2 when more or less toilet trained, and once they'd both decided they wanted to be "big" girls, it only took a couple of weeks for them to grasp the idea. Of course there were accidents, but generally it was v quick.

DD3 however is a different kettle of fish. Like your DD1 she has DS, and this summer I'm going to do the whole chart thing and try to get into a routine with her. DD3 does not speak (also has ASD) but uses some makaton and PECS, so her school are going to help me with some resources. They suggested indoors that I wear a badge with a photo of the loo on it so DD3 can point to it (combining the makaton sign also) Don't you just know I'm going to go to Tesco with a pic of a toilet attached to me??

oh x posted, not a boast, just didn't know how old your dd was!

my ds trained himself at 2.5. was running round one morning and went and sat on the loo. usual encouragement. We decided to go with it. First day 4 accidents, second day 8 accidents(he was at nursery), third day 2 and then pretty much dry by day 4

well step backwards today - although in her defence she was up most of the night and so wanted nappy pants on today and slept most of the day. Holidays start at the end of this week so will take her as I take dd1 and I guess by the end of the holidays at least one will be toilet trained.

It def sounds like it, but you will have those little backwards steps too. How I dealt with it was to keep letting htem go at their own pace until they were at least reliable for poos then no nappies at home, then working up to no nappies while out and about. I don't like training pants - they feel like a nappy so don't help very much. dd was trained before she was 2 like this, ds1 (sn) by about 3.5, so I would say she is at a good age.

Hopefully once you start dd1, dd2 will copy and that will encourage them both. I'm trying to get my twins into the interested stage and they copy each other and are making progress slowly.
