Impetigo and Hand/Foot/Mouth..together?!

Hello mums...

Has anyone else's child had both impetigo and hfm at the same time??? My 15mth old dd showed the tell-tale red spots of hfm on her mouth, hands and feet yesterday. I took her to the gp today and he said she'll need antibiotics as she has impetigo too (argh).

The antibiotics taste like poison and even two pots of yoghurt won't disguise the taste so there's nothing for it but to wait until my dh is home and try to tag-team as we force her to take it Confused

Has anyone got any tips (for either condition or both)? She's already had chicken pox so it feels like she's on a mission to get a full house of conditions before her 2nd birthday Grin

I'm slowly losing the will......! X

Yup - my DD got both on the same day just after her first birthday. In a way it was helpful because at least she was only off nursery and in isolation the once. I just had to give her the antibiotics against her will and cope with the tears and give lots of hugs afterwards - but her face told me they tasted vile! We were told isolation for a week and stuck to that but actually she was on the mend way before that so only a couple of days of her feeling awful. Good luck!

We battled with antibiotics. Is there anything she loves? We got to a compromise that ours would take it then have something 'to wash it down' favourite juice/ little milkshake etc and maybe a chocolate button or three to take the taste away. It does taste horrid and she's probably feeling pretty rubbish too. But on plus side two days of antibiotics and she'll start to feel better/ fight you off giving her antibiotics better?

Thank you Flowers I think it's all just been a nightmare as my mum's in hospital with pneumonia so the timing is about as rubbish as it can get!

I'll just have to battle through and hopefully by Wednesday she'll have turned a corner! She's actually playing as normal and isn't totally off food so that's a plus. It's just getting this darned medication down her Blush you'd think they could invent a way to make it taste like calpol!! Wink
