Settling into nursery - advice please!

Hello,

My little boy who will one this week did his first taster mornings at nursery last week. It didn’t go well - he cried all the time he was there!

We have a week off this week, then he’s doing a settling in week, 10-3, and the following week he starts going 8-6 for four days a week and I’m back at work.

I’m really concerned that he’ll be upset while he’s there. I feel like I’m abandoning him! I know it’s for the best for him. He’s usually great at mixing with other children and chatting to people, but obviously that’s when I’m there.

We live in London and don’t have family nearby so he has spent a lot of time with me. Although he’s always been fine when he’s stayed with his grandparents through the day and overnight.

Doesn’t anyone have any tips/advice/experiences to share? I’m so nervous about leaving him!

Thanks

He’ll cry at first but he’ll settle in quickly. Nursery nurses are very, very used to this!

Leave sharpish when you drop him off - don’t drag it out

Also, DS absolutely loves nursery. Today I had to literally drag him out of the place while he screamed ‘TOOOOOYYYYYSS!’ which is not good for the ego Hmm

I used to allow myself to ring nursery 15 minutes after dropping him off (nursery in the same site as my office). He was never crying.

After a couple of weeks I stopped ringing. I dodn’t stop crying myself for a few weeks!!

It’s tough at first, but it’s for the best and has to be done. Lots of parenting it like that.

Good luck kx
