What do you do for your DC’s birthdays?

It’s DD’s sixth birthday coming up and I’m stuck for what to do. I’m totally overthinking it and tying myself in knots about it (I’ve just had DC3, so I think hormones are making me silly and sleep deprivation is stopping me from being able to think it all through logically!) So I need to hear what others do.

Do you do a party every year? How do you/your DC decide who to invite? How much do you spend? Do you spend less on a gift if your DC wants a party? The whole thing is made tricky because DD doesn’t have a best friend/close group of friends so I’d feel bad limiting the guest list and think I’m going to have to end up hiring a hall and inviting the whole class. And I’m not sure how I’m going to organise all that with a five week old baby to look after!

Some years I have done a family gathering for my son's birthday, some years has been a party with classmates, other years has been a special outing. Today we had a bowling party for him & 3 friends then food at home. Just do something he will enjoy whether it's with friends or just immediate family.

Soft play is your friend - it looks expensive up front, but if you hire a hall, entertainer and buy food, the hall option is no cheaper. Plus soft play requires virtually no work on your part. Guess what we're doing for DD this year...
