Vapour rub on nostrils!

Help just found out that my mum has put the snuffle babe vapour rub on my babies nostrils whilst babysitting him today. She took him to the doctor's this morning as he's 12 weeks old tomorrow and has a bunged up nose and cold. She claims doctor said it was ok to put it on his nose, and it's cleared his airways. However after looking on box and online it says clearly not to! Will my baby be ok? Will just put it on chest from now on.. mum feels terrible.

I'm sure she only put a little on there, he'll be fine.

If his nose starts to go bright red or seems to be irritating him because of it, then there's cause for concern but I wouldn't worry.

Poor Mum for feeling bad :( best intentions I'm sure

Just wipe it off. Ideally, put it on the bottom of the feet. There is a small amount of risk it can cause respiratory issues in babies who are prone to asthma, so safest place to put it is somewhere it isn’t too close to the airways.

That said, I’m asthmatic and my mum used to put Vicks under my nose constantly as a kid. It didn’t kill me so the risk is surely quite small.

I'm sure your LO will be ok. But in future just put it on chest and bottoms of feet.
I'm sure your mum done it for the best intentions.
Hope LO gets better soon
