Got to toddler bed

So when I was pregnant we bought a cot/bed I'm not sure when to transition it into the toddler bed my DD is 15/16 month old. I thought this was still to young but a friend made me feel stupid for not changing it by now

I didn't change mine til he was almost 3 (30 months?) and that was only because he was getting too heavy to put him in!!

My daughter was 2.5. Some other mums I had met seemed to change to a bed just after 1 but that seemed very young to me. Surely a cot better so they can't just get out. We only changed when we did as I was pregnant and knew it needed to be done at some point.

My daughter was nearly 3 when we moved her from cot to normal single bed (the cot did convert but we needed it for her brother).

There is no way my 18 month old is coming out of the cot yet.

We changed at about 18 months, DD1 because we were expecting DD2 imminently and then DD2 because she wanted to be in a bed like her big sister and hated going in the cot. Both were toilet trained before 2 so needed to be able to get out and go to the toilet anyway.
There’s absolutely no rush though. Only move them if you have a reason to (climbing the cot etc).

My 18 month old is still in the cot; I wasn’t planning on moving her until she’s trying to climb out or I’m confident she won’t fall out

liquidrevolution · 17/10/2018 21:22

You change it when a) your back can't take lifting them out or b) they start flinging themselves out.

Combination of both meant DD was in cot bed by 13 months. She had a high bedguard until she was 3 and we changed to a single bed and still has a pool noodle to stop her rolling off at 4.5. Shes a bit of a mover rotates 360 degrees while sleeping.

TooMinty · 17/10/2018 21:24

We changed when they started climbing/jumping out. Otherwise keep the sides on as long as possible!

Namechangemum100 · 17/10/2018 21:29

My DD is 20 months and I have no plans to do it any time soon. I know people who have done it at a year and it seems crazy to me.

DD will stay in her cot as long as possible.

Ds had just turned 2 and began climbing out. It decided for us.

Youvegotafriendinme · 17/10/2018 21:33

I had no intention of moving DS to his big bed so early but he was climbing out multiple times a night. He was 21 months

MaryBoBary · 17/10/2018 21:34

He had just turned 2 and started putting his leg up over the bars. But I definitely wouldn’t rush to do it, only if it becomes dangerous due to climbing. It’s the same size as a cot bed so it’s literally just when you want to take the bars off. We had to basically empty his room when we did it as I didn’t want any lamps/monitors/electrical anywhere within his reach once he could get out of bed in the night.

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 17/10/2018 21:36

I only moved mine out when they started to climb out.
With DS1 it was about 2.5 yrs
DS2 he was only about 15/16 months as he was a bloody climber.

dementedpixie · 17/10/2018 21:40

Ds was 2 and a half when he went to a big boy bed
