Bedding for one year old in winter

Hi, just looking for a little bit of advice. My DS is 13mo and with winter coming I was just wondering the following, cos I feel like I’m worrying about him either being too cold or too warm, what kind of bedding do you have during the winter? I.e what tog size for duvet or blankets or is a sleeping bag best?Thank you

My 14mo is in 2.5tog bags, his room sits 18-21c.

He’s always used sleeping bags as I was paranoid about him suffocating under blankets and the bags means he stays tucked in and warm.

I always use a sleeping bag. 3 tog in winter and then change clothes underneath accordingly - so vest & sleepsuit if really cold, just sleepsuit if not. Dd can’t kick it off so it means she doesn’t wake chilly in the night.

Sleeping bag would be 2.5 or 3.5 tog depending how cold the room gets. Maximum tog for a duvet would be 4.5tog in a cotbed

2.5 tog sleeping bag with a long sleeved vest. Can change to a sleepsuits if necessary but 11mo is usually happy with that.

I’d go with a 2-2.5 tog bag + babygrow if the room is something like 16-19 degrees overnight. As he’s over 1 you could do a duvet instead, we have the Ikea toddler one; I’m unsure of the weight but it’s nice and snug whilst not too heavy. Personally at 13 months I’d probably stick with the sleeping bag for now though, especially if he moves around a lot at night.

Thanks everyone. He currently has a duvet which I just don’t think is warm enough now especially as he is a wriggler. I think I am gonna switch to a sleeping bag then. Silly question but is it okay with him standing up and having a sleeping bag on? Every morning I go in he’s stood up raring to go so I was just worried about him tripping over in it. Can tell I’m a worrier can’t you Grin

DS is 15 mo and I just a it bed duvet, it’s 4 tog. He usually ends up on top of it and, so far, this hasn’t bothered him on the colder nights.

Case of the fat thumbs there. I use a cot bed duvet.

Mine always stay in sleeping bags until they move to a bed (as opposed to cot or co-sleeping with me). It depends on how cold your house is, but currently mine is in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag with a baby gro and our overnight temp is about 18/19C ish. When it gets colder, I'll add in a vest as an extra layer.

And yes, sleeping bag is fine in cot. I would just re-consider when you move him to a bed as he's more likely to hop out and start running for the door and obviously fall on his face. But as long as he's contained, it shouldn't be a problem.
