4.5 mo growth spurt, time for solids or just more milk?

My DD2 will be 5 months on 23rd Oct. She's so grumpy and hungry! She's on Hipp Organic formula (milk gone at 7 weeks :( ), she's quite porky and she cant go more than 3 hours, 150mls/5oz bottles, in the day and one at night so total of 6 bottles/30 oz in 24 hours. But now she's not even going 3 hours, she seems so very hungry. I want to demand feed of course, but the windows are getting smaller and smaller...she used to go longer than 3 hours. I can try and up the amount in her bottles I suppose. So....anyone heard of a growth spurt at this time (she was two weeks early, so by some people's estimates she is 4 months), surely its too early for solids? She doesn't have any teeth and has a very strong head but cant sit up on her own. I cant change milk brands as I live overseas and I've had to import all the Hipp Organis milk, and I don't trust the brands here. Its very hot here, maybe we should be offering cooled boiled water too?

It’s probably too early for solids as the guidelines are 6 months

My DS is 9 weeks and takes 6oz bottles already so maybe up her milk and see if she’s happier?

He’s taking between 34-40oz a day. It may be too much but I’m demand feeding him. So if he’s hungry I let him have what he wants and if he’s not and just wants 3oz from the bottle then that’s fine too

Oh and I saw some guidelines saying that a rough guide on amounts to feed are 2.5 oz per 1lb your baby weighs

This means mine is having too much but it might help give you a guide

I was about to say the same. My daughter is 17 weeks and has 6oz bottles 4/5/6 times a day on demand. Wasn't having any at night until the last 3/4 weeks and now has one in the night also... 🙄

@Willow4987 my daughter is 16lbs so that means she's not having enough maybe that's why she wakes up for flipping milk in the night!!!

I'd try and up the amount she has in one go first.
As she wasn't prem I don't think thry usually correct so I'd go with nearly 5 months.
If upping the milk doesn't satisfy her then she's not drastically far off the date but I'd try puree or something like rusks rather than rice which has very nutritional value

My 11 week old wanted feeding every 2 hours a few weeks ago. She is on 180mls now - 6 scoops of HIPP organic. She was constantly hungry so I upped her intake and she stopped waking at night and is a much happier baby.

@EmmaJR1 yeah I try and tank DS up with milk during the day in the hope he sleeps better at night...sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t

threetwoonezero · 16/10/2018 11:08

Thanks all...I think I will up her milk intake per bottle then and see how that goes. Her sleeping is all off the last day or so too...something is definitely going on!

I also need to weigh her and see if I'm giving her enough...
