How do you baby wear in the rain?

DD is 7 weeks old and hates being anywhere but on me so we usually baby wear in a cotton stretchy wrap for short trips out (and usually when I'm pushing the pram because she's been screaming in it).

How do I keep her dry in this weather? We're going out at 1pm for a meeting about a fifteen minute walk away. Do I just do my coat up around her and keep a hat on? Is the only way to carry an umbrella (mine is broken so that's not an option today)?

Any chance you could get a proper carrier as opposed to the wrap? They are about 100 quid (but so worth it!) and rain covers are available online for them. Or if it’s just a short trip, pop in the buggy and be super quick?
Otherwise yeah, coat and hat would work!

There is no chance an umbrella would survive here today, it’s far too windy. I used to tuck dd right into my (husbands- it was bigger than mine) coat and hope for the best.

Hi,

With a wrap I pull some over DD head so she is protected. Then wear a big coat over the top.

Usually an umbrella works, but not in this wind today

I have a mamalia soft shell jacket it’s fab

We use bundlebeans. They do a lightweight rain cover one and a thicker fleece lined one for when it's colder. Fold up really small so easy to carry when not in use too.

I used to use DH's coats.

I just dress them in less clothes and do coat up over them. Sometimes a hat on their head or tuck them into the wrap.

Looking in to getting a proper carrier after Christmas as she gets that much bigger so it'll be much easier when I can buy a waterproof add on.

I did the hat and coat zipped up around her idea and it worked well. Won't work with sideways rain and wind but it's the trade off I guess.

I did stretchy wrap with dh coat over the top, used the unzipped part of lapel of the coat to shelter ds if it was required.

BiscuitDrama · 13/10/2018 10:26

I zipped coat up as far as it would go, put coat and baseball cap (!) on baby once a bit older or used umbrella.

Zip us in panel in your normal coat, or I had a close cocoon that clipped onto my caboo wrap pretty easily.

Northernbeachbum · 13/10/2018 12:44

DPs coat for me which goes up to babies neck, waterproof coat with hood up for DS

yellowplumpreserves · 13/10/2018 12:47

When I was baby wearing (yo Negative is now three) I had a lightweight raincoat several sizes too big. I could zip it up to cover her feet and body, and used a combination of the wrap and a hat to keep the rain off her head.
