6ft 12yo Dd ! School threatening detention as I can’t find trousers or skirt long enough!

Ok here goes!
Dd is 6 foot tall in flat shoes. Last year I got her long trousers ladies size 10 and no problem. She had slim leg trousers. I always ensure correct uniform !
This year was hell! 35 inch legs now so even tall in most shops are 34” She needs 36 “ with shoes/ growing room. I cannot find any and eventually had to settle for Next trousers with horizontal zips covered by her jumper.
I emailed School to explain I have looked in
Matalan
Asda
Tesco
Sainsbury’s
New look
River Island
Dorothy Perkins
Wallis
Marks and Spencer
H and M
TK MAC
Debenhams
Beales
Top Shop
Primark
and online at ASOS and long tall Sally . We made several online orders for long trousers from Next and New Look, also tried skirts in long. All too short. Eventually we found what were described as black trousers in size 10 xl so got them.

I emailed School to explain the situation on her first day back with no response.

Fast forward 4 weeks and I email School to discuss concerns regarding what I felt may be back chatting teachers. I advised if she was being cheeky there would be consequences. Teacher was meant to investigate.

Since last week all the teacher emails about is her trousers, rather than my original question.

I said the only other trousers that are plain black and age appropriate are in Long Tall Sally and £60 per pair! She needs 3 pairs so £180! I explained I am not paying that for 3 pairs of trousers. The head of year then sends me links to ASOS which I already trawled through , none suitable and also to long tall Sally sale which has jeggings, faux leather, suede, baggy trousers ( would get teased by peers) .

She is trying to insist we buy new trousers. WWYD?
🙄

The Alexandra ones are awful polyester and nothing like her peers wear. Very likely to be ridiculed wearing them at this school.

Triwarrior we had no issue last year at 5’10 , she is now 2” taller in the leg rather than body. Hence nothing fits!

We bought the best we could at the time at £31 per pair ( still over what most adults pay for trousers!) so already spent £90 plus on trousers. Out of principle I will not buy more! If they were the wrong colour ok. If they were jeans ok. They are black trousers. Decent and practical so I’m not spending more money. Especially as I also need to get her other clothes for winter and Xmas is coming. I don’t have endless pots and she isn’t an only child.

Wetdressinggownsie we just got skinny ladies stuff. Dd2 is 10 yo and 5’4 so ladies clothes size 6/8. Just tried to get non slogan stuff!

H&M kids stuff tended to be quite slim fit and Next do some kids things in slim fit too Wetdressing.

Girls tend to stop growing a bit earlier than boys so with any luck that might be your DD fully grown OP.

would smart black jeans be acceptable. even original lewis jeans are not 60£

I feel your pain OP. I also have a very tall DD.

In your shoes I would get yourself on the Facebook group 'Long Tall Sally/Buy/Sell/Trade'. It is a group where people sell second hand Tall clothes and also ask questions exactly like you have just asked.

Also, get yourself on the mailing list for Long Tall Sally - they sometimes have some very good offers. My DD gets most of her clothes from New Look, Next and ASOS with a few bits like sweaters, suits and leggings from Long Tall Sally. We also buy her lots of stuff in Old Navy on business trips to the US .

If school thinks there are acceptable trousers at ASOS then ask them for a specific link to the pair they think you should get. To be honest it sounds like the school's remit is fairly general and you are imposing extra restrictions on what your DD will or will not wear. I thought this was going to be like me DC's school where only 1 type of trousers is official uniform, and you really are in trouble if not that size/shape.

And I don't understand why you need 3 pairs - my DC both manage quite happily with 1. So that will save you money anyway.

greencatbluecat · 14/10/2018 18:00

PS your school is being ridiculous. If they give your DD detention, look up their complaints procedure, which will be published in their website

NotMeNoNo · 14/10/2018 18:25

Does the Next XL length fit her if you can find an acceptable style? this for instance.

Also trousers that have a proper hem can often be lengthened several centimetres, that is not a big job you can get it done at an alterations place.

I remember my friend having a similar issue with her DD who was not only tall but had really large feet and there were no, literally no ladies shoes to fit her.

Why on earth schools can't cut families a bit of slack when through no fault of their own their DC are outside the size range of uniform...

Anyone linked to these?

TSSDNCOP · 14/10/2018 18:32

Posted too soon: scroll right down and they have 10XXL which are 35”

chocsahoy · 14/10/2018 19:04

Do you want to lay low or complain? If she starts getting detentions- what are the usual complaints options at your school? Head of year/section, head teacher, governors?

momentomori · 14/10/2018 19:16

I've not read all the other posts so sorry if anyone has suggested this already but Next do xtall and xxtall if you buy online.

What I always do (because I have a funny shape) is go into the shop and try the trousers on for fit. And then go home and order them online.
