6ft 12yo Dd ! School threatening detention as I can’t find trousers or skirt long enough!

Ok here goes!
Dd is 6 foot tall in flat shoes. Last year I got her long trousers ladies size 10 and no problem. She had slim leg trousers. I always ensure correct uniform !
This year was hell! 35 inch legs now so even tall in most shops are 34” She needs 36 “ with shoes/ growing room. I cannot find any and eventually had to settle for Next trousers with horizontal zips covered by her jumper.
I emailed School to explain I have looked in
Matalan
Asda
Tesco
Sainsbury’s
New look
River Island
Dorothy Perkins
Wallis
Marks and Spencer
H and M
TK MAC
Debenhams
Beales
Top Shop
Primark
and online at ASOS and long tall Sally . We made several online orders for long trousers from Next and New Look, also tried skirts in long. All too short. Eventually we found what were described as black trousers in size 10 xl so got them.

I emailed School to explain the situation on her first day back with no response.

Fast forward 4 weeks and I email School to discuss concerns regarding what I felt may be back chatting teachers. I advised if she was being cheeky there would be consequences. Teacher was meant to investigate.

Since last week all the teacher emails about is her trousers, rather than my original question.

I said the only other trousers that are plain black and age appropriate are in Long Tall Sally and £60 per pair! She needs 3 pairs so £180! I explained I am not paying that for 3 pairs of trousers. The head of year then sends me links to ASOS which I already trawled through , none suitable and also to long tall Sally sale which has jeggings, faux leather, suede, baggy trousers ( would get teased by peers) .

She is trying to insist we buy new trousers. WWYD?
🙄

*more faff, not more Raff (whoever he is)

mnahmnah · 11/10/2018 22:51

To save you more money and hassle I would still ask school if it is purely the zips and if so, would removing them solve the problem. Not sure how they could argue with that

KatieMarieJ · 11/10/2018 22:52

Denny's catering clothing (yes I know!) do a plain black unfinished hem at 36" for women. Unfinished hems are probably your best bet. These guys have some at less than £17 for example www.russums-shop.co.uk/i/q/CY341/ladies-black-service-trousers-unfinished

Or these, they looked a bit ankle grazery but if you got the XXL they might be full length?

Bigbus · 11/10/2018 22:55

OP, have you seen the website 6footfashion.com? They have a few options there specifically for girls/women who are six foot tall.

AnxiousElephant · 11/10/2018 22:56

Waxonfeckoff thanks we have tried those but they were really baggy on hips and crutch x she has a bottom but no hips 😒

Try mens.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/10/2018 22:58

Or they could just accept what looks like a perfectly fine pair of black trousers and get over themselves with the zip.

Far easier than trying to get trousers nmmade for nits body shapes to fit of faff about with tailors. Stuff that

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/10/2018 23:00

Boys body shape.

Fgs auto correct

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/10/2018 23:02

That's a shame :( That might be easier to alter than some of the other options though if it comes to that.

I just think it's beyond a joke tbh. At DSs school they have a uniform and the kids look smart enough but no-one gives a shit what length pupils trousers are or if they wear leggings or tight skirts. Have a bit of an obsession with blazers and ties tbf. They still manage to one of the top performing schools - I've no idea how children can possibly learn without regulation trousers and don't even get me started on the English school system obsessions with policing children's haircuts. Glad I'm in Scotland.

AnxiousElephant · 11/10/2018 23:06

Someone posted about 6footwomen.com ? Can’t see post but will file for future. Smile I am still not prepared to spend more money on trousers until they are outgrown.

We are on a camp not in a village , P.O. in town ( small town)

If they didn’t notice for 6 weeks they clearly weren’t that out of place imho.

DishranawaywiththeSpoon · 11/10/2018 23:06

The school shouldn't be so inflexible in their uniform that a child has to sew their own trousers! Thats ridiculous! She has a fine pair of trousers. If they want other ones they will have to buy them.

She cant wear men's trousers, thats just mean. None of her friends will have men's trousers. Lets be honest they would look awful and would still need a lot of tailoring to fit a teenage girl.

I dont really have any help but I just feel a bit sad for your DD and cross on your behalf with the school!

Bigbus · 11/10/2018 23:10

It's called 6footfashion.com - I hope it helps for the future when the current trousers are outgrown.

AnxiousElephant · 11/10/2018 23:12

Bigbus will have a look for future. For now they need to suck it up buttercup!
The problem is she wants to look like her friends and many trousers that would be acceptable to school are frumpy for her age. What I won’t do is force her into frumpy trousers to comply to then be ridiculed by her peers .I don’t want her to start hating school and it has a bad reputation for bullying. Also it appears staff now want to try to bully parents!

Buy black fabric and add to the hem?

turnaroundbrighteyes · 12/10/2018 01:20

She could get a size 8 extra tall (36") in these for a little less than the LTS ones (other styles available)

turnaroundbrighteyes · 12/10/2018 01:33

Or size 6 or 8, extra tall slim fit £22

triwarrior · 12/10/2018 02:08

Your daughter is an atypical size. That is Not your “fault” but it is your responsibility to address. Your posts are full of “I’m not prepared to pay, etc...” but you don’t have a choice. Either you pay for the expensive trousers or you buy some that are long enough and can be altered to fit at the waist/hips. Tbh you seem mire concerned about getting angry than you do about a solution. I’ve been 5’10 since the same age and we had to make adjustments. My family saw it as our responsibility, not the school’s.

Nat6999 · 12/10/2018 02:30

I'm having a similar problem with my DS school trousers, he's another 6 footer but he's very broad with it, the school uniform suppliers trousers fitted him until just over a year ago, but now he's too big in all ways for their largest size. How do school uniform companies propose to stop our kids growing, my DS is not the tallest in his year & at 14 will probably grow some more before he's finished. The only place I've managed to get some reasonably priced trousers suitable for school was Sainsbury's TU clothing, but they only go up to 35" inside leg, he's wearing 33" at the moment, he's got a very long body & can only just tuck his polo shirt in his trousers, these are the largest size they make. When will the manufacturers realise that kids today are growing much taller & sometimes broader than previous generations, plus now education is compulsory until age 18, many will need uniform for two extra years.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/10/2018 06:50

To be fair tri

Why should she pay.

When everyone else can get theirs for 20 quid and under on the high street. Sone for probably even under a tenner on asda. It's extremely unfair to expect her to pay 60 quid on a pair and they can't even give a reason why they arebt suitable and she wire the last lot 6 weeks before anyone complained.

Adults don't even pay that much for their trousers. Let alone ones for a kid who will grow out of them in a few weeks.

PerspicaciaTick · 12/10/2018 09:01

Just so long as the school is also paying for extra large shoes for the boys. And plus size blazers for the plump. And alterations costs for the shorter children.

triwarrior · 12/10/2018 11:58

@Giles She should pay because it’s her child. (Rather obviously.)

GreenTulips · 12/10/2018 12:26

I wouldn't pay £60 for trousers when she has a suitable pair albeit with zips on them

She's covered and decent isn't she?

Schools are far too picky - no work place would comment

Wetdressinggownsleeve · 12/10/2018 12:40

Hi OP, I'm following this as I can see dd being around 6ft in a few years! She's 9 now.. can I ask where you found long clothes when she was a bit younger? Thanks.
