16 month old crying in her sleep

Dd has always been a good sleeper at night but over the past 3-4 weeks (if not more) she has been having full on crying episodes in her sleep. She will suddenly start crying, i will pick her up and her eyes are closed (so its not night terrors). Picking her up and hugging her doesnt seem to do much tbh and she consistently refuses to take her dummy when its happening (keeps saying no in her sleep). Then, weirdest of all, she will just as suddenly stop crying and go back to sleep.

Any ideas as to what this is?! Or even what we can do to manage it??

We had this probably around the same time (she's now 18 months). No idea what is was but would settle with a drink or milk. I gave in to a sleepyhead grand recently and she's sleeping the best she's ever slept...I think she didn't feel very secure. Who knows!

This sounds very much like my DD when she's going through a leap. She cries in her sleep, muttering and whispering, and thrashing about. At this age they also start having night terrors, so it could be that?

I don't know what it is but my 5 month old does this too! Has been since 4 months :0

Mine does this too sometimes, no idea why. My best guess is nightmares to be honest, I just cuddle him through it but it's all I can do
