Disability badge (blue badge)

Can anyone help? I have just received a letter to say that I need to go for an assessment for a blue badge.
I have RA which has been controlled by medication for the past 5yrs. Sadly the medication I was on stopped working effectively so they are now putting me on biologics for this condition. I have been approved for biologics which I have started taking and I have some of my life back which is great but I am still in constant pain which is mildly controlled by loads of daily painkillers. The criteria for biologics is very high. You have to be assessed by at least 2 different people and score high on the disease activity score which I obviously passed as they gave me the medication. It’s expensive and only the worst cases of RA are given in in the UK due to costs being incurred by (I think) the NHS/government.

Can anyone tell me what happens in the meetings? My issue is is that I probably wouldn’t have applied if I didn’t have a young child (which made my condition worse which no one could have guessed) and I kind of need it for DC safety. I am unable to take my child out unsurpervised. I have been too ‘ill’ to work but have to drag myself into work as we simply cannot afford to lose my income and I’m in too much pain to safely become a SAHM.

Anyone been to this meeting? I do not automatically get a badge as I’m not seeking any income, I just purely need the badge for safety for my DC if I have to go to somewhere like Asda and no one can go for me

I have been. They ask about your condition and ask you to walk and time it and steps etc. Be very clear with them and if you have bad pain make it known and if it hurts too much say so and don't wreck yourself doing the assessment. Mine was overturned on second appeal so keep trying if you need to.
