PS... sorely tempted to get a Bumbo now... I've resisted all your raves then saw that exceptionally cute picture of Egypt's ;)

libb · 10/09/2004 15:50

of course you are not being silly, I tend to get that early evening grump on too. Especially if DS doesn't go down at a civilised time, even when he does I end up slumped on the sofa not doing the things I promised myself I would ...

GeorginaA · 10/09/2004 16:29

Have just ordered a bumbo. I hold you lot entirely responsible.

I like the littble buddha look - please post them!

GeorginaA · 10/09/2004 16:39

I didn't ... mainly because we're going on holiday next week and it wouldn't arrive on time with their 4 day delivery. Bought from a site where I could pay for next day... horribly extravagant, but I thought it could be an easily packed seat for him abroad.

Definitely, post the pics! Libb's and Egypt's bumbo pics were what I used to persuade dh to let me buy one He'd seen the seat but wasn't convinced it'd be comfortable for the wee mite.

libb · 10/09/2004 16:43

You showed my carpet and live in hippy to your DH?! crikey . . .

GeorginaA · 10/09/2004 16:54

She's soooo cute, Twiglett!

So, bumbo owners - what's my chances of squashing one up to fit in my suitcase?!

libb · 10/09/2004 17:19

Oi! was the best around in its day! My DP lived with his brother and various lodgers for far too long so needless to say that they couldn't organise a proverbial in a brewery. Work to the house is underway now I am around! I have sorted the re-wiring, the sofa, the cooker, the washing machine and carpeting to the stairs and hallway - still masses to do but money is a key factor so it is tiny steps, the kitchen is next. I can't hold out until potty training to get a new carpet so I will take my chances!

GeorginaA, what is a holiday suitcase these days? it has been a while since I have seen one.

Egypt · 10/09/2004 17:19

ahhhhh, babes in bumbo's.....and so pleased we all have that attractive green colour

now tell me, what else is made of that material...is so familiar to me but don't know what.......?

Twiglett, your lounge looks good to me!

linnet · 10/09/2004 22:31

I showed Dh a picture of the Bumbo the other night and he thought it looked horrible
It would just be something else to find space for anyway so we don't really need one. I was thinking the other day about how dd2 will eventually need a highchair and where on earth are we going to put it, house is to small, aagghh

Libb, my Dh has longer hair than yours! Your photo's are great your ds is so cute. I must post some photo's on the photobox site since stupid AOL won't let me upload them and I'm fed up waiting on my broadband modem arriving. Might do that tonight.

Georgina, sorry to hear that your not feeling to happy. I'm sure it's just the hormones.

Twiglett, your dd looks lovely in her Bumbo and your ds looks so grown up sitting beside her.

Heard today that a mum at the school delivered her baby 7 weeks early. Actually she had him last Friday but today was the first time I had a chance to speak to our mutual friend. Baby is doing fine though and so is mum. My friend has a 9 month old ds and we were talking about breastfeeding and she said how sometimes she thinks about having a third just to see if she could get the feeding right next time, I told her I sometimes think the same thing, lol I do sometimes think, if I had a third I'd try harder with the feeding and do this different and that different and then I think NO definitely not having any more babies. But the second labour and birth went so well I find myself thinking yes I could do that again, then reality kicks in, lol

ok, I'm going to go see about putting photo's on photobox.

Bye for now

Bozza · 11/09/2004 10:37

I think I'm the only one without a bumbo now! Don't think I'm going to bother either.

Had a fairly tough day with DS's operation yesterday (plus bad nights with DD at either side of it). The operation went well but DS was quite upset when he came round (confused and throwing himself around etc) and in a bit of pain but I think that improved quite quickly. So he was groggy and hungry then but wouldn't eat the jelly and ice-cream provided but I managed to persuade him to have a petits filous and choc buttons I'd taken along.

Anyway after all this and with DD's nocturnal habits (any tips on what to do about this?) I was a bit teary in the early hours (about 5.30am). But DS woke up bright and happy and as if nothing had happened, DD is having a good nap, and I managed to get into a pair of jeans so I'm feeling better.

ScummyMummy · 11/09/2004 10:51

Hope ds feels better soon, Bozza. Sounds like you are being supermum managing all the stress of his op on not much sleep.

Egypt · 11/09/2004 20:14

hope he feels better soon too bozza. sounds like he already does. and hope you get some sleep tonight. lets hope that one night our dd's will just surprise us. i really dont think there is much you can do, except give it time sorry, not much help, maybe someone else could be.

linnet, we got a bosster highchair from argos. they are very compact and i'm sure you could find a place for it at home, or just leave it strapped to a dining room chair until no longer needed.

forgot to add that we picked up my xsara picasso today - or the big blue bus as it is now know - try saying that after a few . so i'm happy now. my mum should be coming monday, except my nan has taken a turn for the worse. mum spent the night at the hospital with her on thursday/friday. she woke unable to breathe properly. her heart was beating twice as fast. it's settle down a bit now but she has a chest infection. mum's not sure whether to come here or not. think if my nan gets any worse i shall go to norwich instead, so i can see her, just in case....

[hugs] to Bozza and Egypt - sounds like both of you are having a tough time of it at the moment. I hope your ds recovers quickly, Bozza, and that you get some rest. Egypt - I hope your nan gets better soon.

I'm a bad mummy . After ds2's bath, dh was drying him off and I said "you do check that his neck is well dried, don't you?" We had a look under his chin, then (for the first time in ages, obviously) managed to get his chin high enough to open all the little folds up and it was red raw under there Poor little mite was screaming and hollering - must have been really sore. Got some cream in there now though so I hope it heals fairly quick. We've obviously both been fairly lax in the bathing baby department

Otherwise, he's been doing well today. He's started moving about - his movement of choice is to lie on his back, fling his legs sideways as if he was going to roll (although he never has - think he'll be like his brother - never see the point in rolling over until he starts crawling), then arches his back and sort of flips himself around. He can do a 360 degree spin on his playmat - very cool . Better pay more attention to where all the small toys are in the room now, I suppose.

Egypt · 12/09/2004 08:06

wow georgina, thats big time acrobatics!!

i checked under dd's chin not so long ago and it was like that. some sudocrem cleared it up quickly. you do just get so laid back sometimes don't you. i'm sure my dh still doesnt check under her chin. if you can't see it it doesnt exist! . am a bit more aware of it now though.

thanks for well wishes. i am sure she will be ok. she has been so ill most of her adult life, in and out of hospital. she always seems to overcome the worst.

Hope your nan is okay Egypt, keep us posted won't you?

Bozza, hope you are all recovering well after the operation in terms of sleep and moods. Pleased to hear about your jeans though - life can be sweet at times!

GeorginaA, how are you feeling? a little better I hope - apart from the under the chin saga! DP and I have a technique where one of us distracts DS from behind and the other yells "get him!" and frantically attacks him with a muslin. Poor mite! Traumatised from an early age.

We have had a hellish couple of days of constant griping and refusing to settle, I think it may be because of teething but all the usual cures didn't work. I have also had a tummy upset so wonder if that could've been the cause - he is in a sunnier mood today (as am I!) and he slept brilliantly when he finally went down at 10-10.30 ish last night, didn't wake until 5 - had a feed and then settled down again between us both until 9. I did have to sacrifice my yummy Saturday takeaway for the cause though .

There, a healthy smattering of "too much information" for you all on a Sunday!

GeorginaA · 12/09/2004 11:29

Still very up and down to be honest.

I really got myself upset last night because I was worried about ds2 finding small toys. Up until now I've been quite blase about leaving him for small periods of time to hang washing up etc, and now I've realised I can't really.

Ds1 loves to "help" by passing ds2 toys, and they're not always age appropriate, so I'm going to need to supervise constantly. Need to go through all the toys and put seriously non-baby friendly ones in ds1's bedroom, but I don't know quite how to do that without ds1 feeling that he's being heavily penalised.

We've put up a playpen in the lounge for when I have to go and do chores and have ds2 somewhere safe, but it's huge and it makes the room look really horrible and crowded - I've put so much work in recently to make the place look nice and it's got me feeling low.

Ended up getting all worked up and not able to sleep until gone 1am, which seems completely insane in the cold light of day - I'm obviously thinking too far ahead of myself, but last night it was a really big worry.

Travel cot is a good idea, but to be honest, I'm not sure I'd actually ever put it down The playpen looks a little more open to the room as well (and ds1 likes playing in it, don't think ds2 will get a look in!!) We've started calling it the baby prison already, though .

Ds1 is lovely though. I just sat him down and explained about the toy situation, and he was happily saying he'd put all his small toys upstairs and gave me a big hug. Not sure he'll be quite as amenable in practise, but nice to see him eager to help now.

We've just had a builder around to quote on our extension, so I'm hoping that complete chaos is short term (although obviously it's going to get worse before it gets better with builders in!)

Dh has pointed out that when ds2 starts crawling he'll be a bit more of a playmate too, so ds1 might be happy chasing around on all fours with his brother. Hard to get out of thinking of them as two separate beings playing alongside rather than together - I think really, I expected to treat baby no. 2 exactly the same as baby no. 1, forgetting that the dynamic has completely changed.
