Packed lunch or school food

Hi,

I give dd packed lunch ( we are vegetarian).

She is happy with that. But i was wondering if it's better to let her have school food considering the different options she can try there.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I personally would always go for school meals. It’s likely cheaper (especially if she gets free school meals) and it’s good for them to eat with their friends. I suppose it depends on the quality of the vegetarian food on offer. I know our school has at least one, sometimes 2 vegetarian meals each day.

I'm in the same position OP. Two vegetarian DC at primary school and they both take packed lunches.

The veggie option at our school is Quorn-based 4 days out of 5. My DC aren't keen on Quorn, and I wouldn't really be happy with them having it every day. The school do offer a 3rd option, which is usually soup or jacket potato. They occasionally have this, but are a bit fussy and prefer packed lunches.

I don't make OTT healthy packed lunches, but probably a more balanced meal than they would get from picking at the school dinners.

They still get to eat with their friends :)
