Hi I was wondering if I could have a little advice, my baby is 6 months today I started weaning her around 2 weeks ago as she was showing all the signs of being ready for it, she’s been doing well.....but she’s started having 3-4 poo’s a day they’re all runny to and is crying quite a bit before this she was having quite hard poo’s as she is on reflux milk normally she is a really happy baby not much of a cryer and been sleeping through 10-12 hours a night since 2 months but past couple of weeks been lucky for her to sleep 8 hours..... not quite sure what to do or make of it, I’m a first time mum, any advice would be appreciated, thank you in advance Smile

Sounds like either a reaction to a certain food or if there’s nothing new in her diet then it’s most likely a tummy bug. I’d just put her on plainish foods but mostly just milk for a couple of days and see how she goes

What have you given her so far?

Phoebemama · 30/09/2018 23:02

I've been giving her the 4-6 months foods Heinz foods, baby rice, or mashed potatoes

It's possible she's constipated and the runny poo is essentially leaking round harder impacted faeces. Does her tummy feel hard? Does she strain a lot? I would back off the baby rice and potato as they are likely to bung her up. For now I'd ease off the food and then reintroduce slowly. Maybe try single foods one at a time to see if any in particular are disagreeing with her. If you want to use purées and don't have the time or inclination to make your own, Ella's Kitchen do good pouches. At 6 months you could also just steam a selection of veg for her to try herself.

Before this she used to get constipated coz of the reflux milk and struggle with hard poo's but now her tummy is soft and not struggling nearly as much. I will start to make her single foods, I just bought the pouches to try her on (obviously not gone well Blush). Thank you for the advice
I'm not even sure wether to keep her on the reflux milk she struggled with reflux so was told by doctor to change to that but she's had nothing but trouble with that her poo's went really hard and she's struggled so much with them being so big doctor told me to give her water between feed but she doesn't like it and spits the lot out, wouldn't mind she's still been being sick abit with the milk to!

My DD gets poo like that when she's got teeth on the way.

Also when I started weaning the pouches with pear and prune were brilliant for sorting her poo out :) you might give those a try

At first it might be better to give single vegetable purees rather than anything with combined ingredients so that you can see if anything in particular causes issues.

I was very cautious with DD due to a family history of allergies so I followed the advice to feed her the same veg puree 3 times before moving onto the next thing. I only gave mixed veg purees once we had tried all the component ingredients separately.
