10 week old not feeding as much

DD is 10 weeks old (11 on Wednesday) and is formula fed.

From being around 6 weeks old, she's quite consistently taken 4-5oz each feed, which I believe was quite a lot for her age. She would generally go 3.5-4 hours between feeds.

Fast forward to now and it's often a struggle for her to take 3oz and I could set my clock by her for 3 hours between feeds. Advice on the formula says that by her age/weight, she should be taking 6oz and 5 feeds a day - I know to take with a pinch of salt but it just seems so different to what she's doing.

She has her last feed at 7pm and is asleep before 8, she'll then go until midnight/1am but then it's back to every 3 hours again.

She absolutely will not take milk if she doesn't want it and she's definitely not as windy as she used to be - sometimes I don't get any wind up at all but can tell she's not uncomfortable with it.

We have plenty of wet nappies & one dirty nappy each day (sometimes every other day). She was above birth weight within 5 days and last time we had her weighed at 7 weeks she was 11lb (born at 7lb 6oz) She's a happy baby all round really (unless she's overtired).

I suppose what I'm asking is should I be concerned by the smaller amounts she's taking and is her not getting so much during the day the reason why she can't go so long at night? I just wonder if she's now more efficient at drinking that she's not wasting as much..

What a ramble!!

Hi OP. My DS is 12 weeks and has 4-5oz every three hours in the day. He has his last bottle (usually around 6oz) at 7pm and then does a longer stretch until he wants more. Some nights he only gets up once, some it's twice. I think it's all fairly normal!

My DD was a bit like yours, suddenly taking much less. Then she'd go back to "normal" a few days later. DS is fairly consistent in comparison.

Oh, and I've found that they definitely do seem to drink less when they've learned how to do it efficiently, like you say. DD was a fairly neat drinker after awhile, DS had to have an actual towel for a bib because he dribbled so much milk! He's getting a lot better and therefore not draining his bottle as much.

Thankyou!! Maybe she's just having one of those weeks, she's not in a leap but there's one next week. Just had her bedtime bottle and she had 4oz but it was a battle with her, I wish she'd take 6oz.

Just so tiring after she does that first wake up.. I probably should go to bed earlier!
