Baby fell off bed 😥😳🤢

I’m feeling the worst I’ve ever felt in my life, my 8 months old fell off the bed. I was changing her clothes and turned my head away for two seconds when she leaned forward and tumbled down straight on the top of her forehead (we have hardwood flooring!) 🤢😥😥 She didn’t have any serious injury apart from a big bruise, I took her straightaway to A&E, the doctors monitored her for a few hrs and said she’s fine and has not serious injury to her head, I just need to watch her for the next few days. Despite of this I’m worried sick about her and also feel disgusted how could have I allowed this to happen, I’m her mother who’s meant to protects her! I’ve just set up a sleeping bag next to her cot to watch her overnight...’ 🤢

Has this happen to anyone else and what did the health visitor follow up look like?

Honestly don’t beat yourself up about it! You’ve had her checked and she’s fine, no need to keep worrying or seeing a private doctor.

DS1 fell off the bed when he was about 11 months old, cried for a minute then was fine. Then did exactly the same thing 10 minutes later!! Why I put him back on the bed is a mystery....... He was fine though and has had far more bumps and bruises along the way!

Same thing happened to us when DS was 8 months. Totally my fault. I RAN to A&E and burst into tears in triage. The three nurses were wonderful, they just chuckled and told me they'd all done the same!

I do love a PP's comment that you've just levelled up in parenting Grin

Congratulations, you're now a professional mother. Before this you were only a trainee :)

Literally never met a baby who didn't fall off either the sofa or the bed at least once. (It's traditionally how you find out they can roll.) They are always fine. They bounce.

I was visiting my mother with 6 week old dd1 she was breastfeeding on the bed with me I dozed off and dd fell off bed. Awful. She was so tiny. Rushed to the local acute injuries unit a sort of cottage hospital. She was checked and was fine. I felt sick for days. She is now a fit and healthy 12 yo.

You need to give yourself a break op.

DS has fallen off the bed twice. He’s two now with no lasting effects, though I was completely traumatised both times!

I think it’s almost a rite of passage

My 1yo has fell off the bed and the sofa Blush I felt the same as you but was reassured by a nurse when she told me “this is like the 20th baby I’ve seen this week who’s took a dive off the bed”

WhispersOfWickedness · 28/09/2018 09:28

Yep, rite of passage Smile
DC1 did it at least once. DC2 decided to outdo her brother and show us all that she could stand up whilst not strapped into the supermarket trolley ShockBlush Was a proper sickening thud (trolley seat height to hard supermarket floor), but she was completely fine Confused Bet a wooden bedroom floor doesn't sound so bad now, does it? Wink

Please don't give yourself a hard time. My daughter fell on to a toy back in June and ended up with a dent in her forehead that my finger could fit in!!

A&E visit, observed for a few hours, X-rayed with a rich tea biscuit to keep her quite and almost still....and she is/was fine!

Doctor reassured us that their wee foreheads are designed to take quite a bit of blunt force trauma, which makes sense given how often them seam to land on them!

Have also seen HV since as she hasn't mentioned it so no one can have been that concerned...

DC1 fell head first out of the cot at around 8 months. Completely my fault for leaving the drop side down when I knew he was pulling himself up on things. Basically he pulled himself up, it was too low and he continued up and over the side. Luckily onto a big pile of duvets and cushions!

I vaguely remember DC2 falling off my bed but I was too sleep deprived to remember anything from that time accurately.

Both fine.

Oh yes, happened here too.

Well, not here. On a remote australian island on the great barrier reef, shortly after a lecture about how there were limited medical facilities on the island and anything more than a graze would require an air ambulance.

DS was fine, my heart palpitations settled down eventually ;-)

My DD fell out of the front door, nearly smashed her face in on the concrete doorstep. I was outside pulling weeds next to the door, she was in the hall playing (she was about 15 months) and suddenly she decided to come outside too. I caught her just in time. Then she did it again a couple of days later. I learned after that.

DS just fell head first off the bed (AGAIN) onto laminate flooring. About 60cm. Seems fineConfused
