Introducing water

My LO is 4 month and has never been given water. I k ow they don't need it at this age but I am planning on starting to give first tastes at 5 month ready to start full on weaning at 6 month. When did you introduce water for your little one? I don't want to throw everything at him at once so do I start offering him little sips now? I've recently bought a sippy cup, just a basic tommee tippee one, and it says that it's from 4 months. Thanks

I gave water in her normal milk bottle as soon as we stated doing any weaning. I think you'll struggle to get them to take the tippy cup for a while.

Our DD used it at 6-7m with help and independently between 8-9 months. We started giving her all her milk and water in that cup at about 7m.

The advice is to introduce water from a cup from around 6 months when you start introducing solids. They only need water before this stage if there's a heatwave and they aren't getting enough hydration from milk feeds alone. They will still be getting the majority of liquids needed from milk so I would just introduce cup once solids are introduced. My Ds2 is 8 months and drinks from a cup at mealtimes but still doesn't take a huge amount.

I started giving a sippy cup of water at the same time as I started weaning. To start with she wouldn’t take much, but now DD is 11 months and drinks lots of water from various cups

I started giving water at about 6 months, when I started weaning. I never put water in a bottle, I went straight to a sippy cup.

We had to start at 4 months due to severe constipation but this was under care of pead and lots of other things going on.

We did the first few goes a few sips out of his bottle.

Once we hit weaning we introduced a munchkin 360 cup straight away. Started off taking the silicone off so it was a free flow until he got the hang of that. Then we put the silicone up but held it up by his mouth until he was happy with that. Then dropped the silicone and he had it by the end of the day. In total took about a week.

Good luck!
